361  Custom amp building, Prototypes and other amps / Mods and Tweaks / Re: Westlabs built for Matchless to their specs VS Ceriatone Output Transformer on: February 19, 2009, 02:10:50 PM
Very well done, thanks for the comparison.

Very interesting thread indeed !
It will be very nice if you can properly record and post here your sound samples gentlemen. Than we can hear the magic of the “crappie” and mercury OT.
We all be very thankful – please!

If they are original Rolla H30, then you’ll get loud, big Lows and mild high/mids.
Not much harmonic content but good overall tone. I think it will go well with the OTS (I guess it is 50 w and not 100 !!!).

Hi Mcinku,

Thanks man!
I glued it in with dental cement - stick itself is very strog but flexible 2mm fishing nylon line, one can use a grass trimmer line as well.
But unfortunately it can scratch guitar surface if you don’t have pickguard. That’s why I play on the neck not near pickups.

Cheers

Lovely tone end nice playing Marin, this LP sounds really good with the OTS.

Thaks

I got my OTS 50 today without any mods. Im more of a player then a tweaker so i dont know mutch about the technical stuff of this amp. Im giving my amp a "burnthrough" as i make this post.

I tried the Clean chan and it got everything that i was expecting out of it, But for th OD chan, i would liek som more gain, the way it is now its a bit crunchy and not verry OD. If someone could tell me where to look for the OD trimpot and how to modify it for a bit more OD with a lot of punch and edge with a nice headroom i would be verry greatful.

Thanks, from Sweden

Here it is my good man - black trim pot

also here

addjust for your taste and have major joy - more gain than Marshall.

Good friend of mine sold wife, beloved dog and left leg to buy real Dumble!
He’s got it and now moans that it sounds nothing like a Robben Ford’s Dumble!!!
He can’t buy Robbens hands and head.
Sorry mate, just joking! I’m slightly drunk. Wink

Nice playing and good tone!
Only you have to get rid of video camera’s audio compression somehow.
370  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: New user from germany on: February 06, 2009, 08:30:56 PM
Well, we discussed this here and on the gear page long time ago Angry. If you want DUMBLE then Overtone gets you there, not Fuchs which is lovely amp but as you’ve mentioned more fenderish, cleaner and polite.
And then there is My moded Ceriatone OTS which will kick any stock Fuchs’s ass, but not Scott Lerner’s moded Fuchs’s because he worked on his.
Moral of the story is! and I’ve mentioned this several times (unfortunately very few listens) IF YOU WANT PERFECT AMP and GREAT TONE – you have to WORK ON YOUR AMP!!!
Even Robben Ford does!!! Brings his amp to Alexander Dumble for tweaking once or twice every year.
And finally as we all know – tone is mainly in the hands of the player and good amp just helps to reveal it. Tongue
371  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: advise on getting a SRV tone on: February 03, 2009, 11:12:22 AM
Probably it is wrong to mention on this forum but if one really wants all SRV tones in one amp have to try 300 watt Crate Blue Voodoo! Unfortunately it weights 45 kg (only head), but really sounds amazing with full 8X12 Celestion Century stuck. Grin

Thanks so much for listening gentlemen, I’m glad you’ve enjoyed it.

Hi Guys,
Another vid from same gig. Nice interaction with the keyboard player on the and of the clip. Hope you enjoy it.

374  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: advise on getting a SRV tone on: January 28, 2009, 11:56:03 AM

@pickmaster Disd you use the neck pickup on the last bit of the distorted mp3?

On distorted mp3 it's only neck pickup, standard noiseless strat.
375  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: What kind of phase inverter tubes are you using? on: January 28, 2009, 11:51:32 AM
AT7 Significantly!!! Reduces power output so you are loosing at least 10-15 watts and loads of warmth. That’s why your amp feels “glassy” because low frequencies gone.
It’s OK if you like it this way as far as it compliments your style.
