Exactly, since the amp has the correct voltages on the output tubes and phaseinverter (v3), it doesn't sound likely that the powertransformer should be connected wrong.

More likely that you have wired the amp wrong.
332  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: I could use a little more help on: August 29, 2009, 05:31:07 AM
No, I sounds absolutely wrong.

Turn of the power and check all wiring in your amp.

Use the 'layout' on the ceriatone webpage. If your amp is the latest overtone version, then use http://ceriatone.com/images/layoutPic/OvertoneLayout/Overtone-Special-V2.jpg

Check every single wire, one at the time.

It sounds like your have made an error in the PSU wiring, so check this part of the thorughly.

This is the best peice of advise I can provide you.

that means soldering. I can't do it.  No idea how much work this is?

I do agree with Erwin that the Klein seems a bit "stiffer" and less trasparant then his Dumbleator. An experiment would be fun

I don't have a Dumleator, but I'd be willing to visit Erwin ofcourse.

no more than 5-10 min

Hi Steven_NL, Erwin_we and others,

I have just posted some mods to the Kleinulator, which I think will bring it to sound more like the Dumblator:
http://ceriatoneforum.com/index.php?topic=1279.0

Would be very interested in hearing your repsonse and off course even more so, if your performed the mods to your klein and posted your response.

I have close listened to your clips. And it sounds like the Klein in your clip is darker than the Dumblator. You reported that the Dumblator, is compressing a little more than the klein. I hounstly belive that the mentioned mods will bring the two closer in regards to touch, feel, compression.
336  Ceriatone / Overtone / Kleinulator mods = Dumblator?? on: August 27, 2009, 01:56:56 PM
Dear all,

I'd like to hear your comments to the following mods done on Michael W. Kliens 'Kleinulator'.

- bridged/removed the 33k input 'grit resistor on FET1
- removed the input 220p cap on FET1

- bridged the 100k input 'grid' resistor on FET2 with a 1.1n cap. = D'lator HP freq (1446 HZ)
- Added the LNF circuit, (10M+220n+10M) on FET2
- Changed the 1M input-to-ground resistor, on FET2, from to 220K

Using the Kelin i series, with a couple of pedals - a T-REX 'roommate' and T-REX 'replica'. I sounds nice and compresses nicely - even with the pedals off.

Settings
- both bright-switches off
- 'Mix' at 5 o'clock
- 'Send' at 12 0'clock
- 'Return' at 12 o'clock

Pedals adjustet to unity gain.

Since, I don't have a dumblator, it would be interesting if someone with both the klein and a d'lator clone, tried the mods on their clone and reported back about how the sounds compare. Due to the compression added by the mods, I have a feeling that its pretty close.

Erwin_we, Steven_nl? others?

Heres me playing my unmodded ots 50w with my framus 2x12. i know its dark but i havent got the lights instaled in my new apertment Smiley

hope you guys enjoy it.

Hi Lindswood,
Those are great tones. You call your amp unmodded, but which schematic (date of) did you use?
338  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Bright switch on: August 25, 2009, 05:07:19 PM
OK so I can't piggy back onto the existing channel relay I'd need to install another one?

Yes, you have to install another relay, because both poles are used on the OD/CL realy. However, you just have to connect the new realy to the plus side and minus side og the OD/CL relay and wupti, you can put the bright cap on pole and the mid cap on the other if you like.
339  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Bright switch on: August 25, 2009, 01:56:59 PM
yes, by putting on a relay that you connect to the OD/Clean relay.

I just done the same to the mid boost, so it only comes into play, when I engage the OD.
340  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Best speaker?` on: August 25, 2009, 05:55:34 AM
Yeah, I like more definition I guess. I wonder if the Ford tone is going through 12-65 and then being massaged by a battery of effects and aural exciters and such.

Live, its just the 2290 delay unit.

Studio, off course, they use all the effects needed to make the best of the recorded sound, in order to sell more records.  Smiley

However, RF's tone has evolved over the years. IMO his latest record 'Truth' is indead a very true tone, that sounds like natural tube tones and not very massaged......From what I have read he use the 12-65, but has experimented with eminence speakers lately, replacing one of the speakers in his 12-65configured, 2x12 cab with a red chassis emi. I believe he has tried a RWB or ToneTonker.
341  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Fired her up and... on: August 25, 2009, 05:39:12 AM
I will check those.
Let me make sure I'm taking a reading correctly. I put my multimeter on ACV 200 and place the black to ground and the read on the 120v connection from the PT to the on/off switch and I get a reading of 1.2

Yet when I do the same thing on the connection from the PT to the rectifier board it reads 50 (multimeter at the same setting). Does that sound right?

I'm sure I understand what you mean. You want to measure the AC voltage to/from the transformer??

Please remember that you are dealing with lethal voltages inside a tube amp. Leave it alone if you feel insecure and take it to a qualified technicial!!

342  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Fired her up and... on: August 25, 2009, 04:53:35 AM
Ok I just checked the voltages and this is where the trouble is.
       Pin 1       Pin 3         Pin 6     Pin 8
V1:  7.38         0.1             009.     0
V2:  30.8         .24              35.      .2
V3:  263          52.1           254      51.6

Ok, so its clear that the problem is between the phaseinverter V3 and V1+V2.

Check your power dropping string 'point L' and 'Point M' on the Ceriatone schematic, to see if the problem is in the PSU, somewhere.
Also check very carefully, that you have wired V1 and V2 correctly.

This friday I make clips. Just a little patience Grin

OK,
I enjoyed your D'later/Klein comparison file.

And I wonder if the Klein could be modified to sound like a D'lator, by adding

- 500p/220k intrance filter
- 44m/50n LNFB network

to FET2. What do you think?
345  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: New D-lator build 3 test configurations on: August 24, 2009, 08:32:01 AM
Huh?  What happened to the test? Cry

+1  Huh?
