The effect loop on the Overtone is unbuffered. I don't know the technical details but it can lead to level mismatches between the amp and the effects. Guys like Larry Carlton and Robben Ford use a Dumbleator to resolve this. (It's a seperate effect loop in a 19 inch rack). Mike Klein has designed a effect loop which also does the trick (it doesn't use a tube). Apart from fixing the level issue it also alters the sound a bit.
You can find quite a lot of info on this forum if you do a search.
I was just wondering if people find it a positive thing that the sound gets altered. Like I said, a guy I know can fix the level problem without altering the sound. Iwas curious to hear peoples opinion about this.

That's the Kleinulator
I also have a Wampler EcstacyDrive, an Emma Discumbobulator, a Cry Baby 535Q and a Korg Pitchblack tuner. I use the G-sharp for reverb, delay and chorus.

The Overtone is very senbsitive to whay type of guitar you use. My Peer Dellen strat with EMG's sounds very dark. My fender Deluxe Player and my Dellen Tele sound very open and bright.

Ceriatone / Overtone / fx loop coloring the sound good or bad?

Hi guys
I was at a local guitar tech shop to have a true bypass fitted to my CLS 222 leslie. I told hiom about my amp and the Kleinulator. He said he could install a small print 4x5 cm which fixed the fx loop. It's soldered onto the amps FX loop ands you can choose between series or parallel. He stressed that it doesn't alter the sound in any way. Is that a good or a bad thing? Mike Klein says that his Kleinulator aims to also alter the sound (like the Dumbleator). So what do you think?
Cheers
Steven

Be glad you know how to do that. I can't even solder a guitar cable.
I do want the Kleinulator in a 19 inch rack though. Level pots on the front of my 19 inch rack is a must.
Setting this amp up is harder then I thought. With hte Kleinulator it's even harder. Maybe a bypass switch would hve been nice so you can do an a/b quick.

Mike wrote me this: Regarding the Klein-ulator, please try these following settings: - Send = 3:00 (8 of 10) - Return = 5:00 (maxed out) - Recovery = 2:00 (7 of 10)
Its important to set the Return all the way up. Its function is to prevent the Recovery stage from being overloaded by too hot of a signal from your effect unit. In this case, just turn it all the way up.

I bought a 2,5 mm plug and a 2.1mm female plug and asked a friend to solder it. (Terrible that I can't do a simple solder job like that myself).
(I wish the Kleinulator was 19 inch)
