316  Ceriatone / Overtone / Size matters! on: September 03, 2009, 04:03:36 PM
Well, we all know that, aren’t we?  Wink
But to prove it once more, here is a little test with 1x12 and 2x12 speaker cabinets.
Both have Celestion Century speakers in. Both are closed back, front ported with similar microphone capsules inside at the same position in front of the speaker.

1x12      W – 53cm,  H – 40cm, D – 28cm.
2x12      W – 55cm,  H – 65cm, D – 30cm

amp – My OTS straight to the A-B switch box and to the speakers.
Guitar - Strat with Dimarzio virtual heavy blues noiseless N & M pickups and bridge humbucker. Shark guitar cable.
Recording – Pro tools, no EQ, no effects.
Track arrangement: 1x12 clean chord followed by 2x12 clean chord. 1x12 clean scale by 2x12. Then clean boost, neck overdrive, bridge humbucker overdrive and finaly bridge single coil overdrive.

Here is a tune I’ve posted week ago with 1x12 cab

And here is a same tune with 2x12, sounds bigger and more natural to me.

I just love my OTS, great amp. Nik thanks once again!!!
Cheers

Mcinku my friend,

Thanks. Yes I’m rusty compare what I use to play years ago. Sad
Here is an old tune recorded in 1989 when I was trying to emulate John McLaughlin’s fusion style. http://www.drika.biz/john.mp3
Oh boy I have to start exercises again.

318  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: As promised! My amp’s tweaks and layout. on: August 25, 2009, 11:49:31 PM
Hi Alex,

You can drill the chassis from the back and install additional switches and pots.

Don’t go for cheaper parts, you don’t need much, just couple of switches, pot and capacitors. Good luck.

Hi Erwin,

Thanks my man. Yes, you are correct. Slop resistor on V1 is 65k now and NFB cap is 400pf. Made cleans fatter and spongier, more bluesmaster territory. Drive also feels just great, liquid and syrupy.
Unfortunately recording is not doing justice to real tone which is amazing live.

It’s being a while since I’ve recorded in my studio. Today is the day and here is a bluesy, rusty picking on strat trough the OTS’s clean and drive channels.

Nice tone and playing, enjoyed it.
322  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: S & M or HRM?-----50 watts or 100 watts? on: August 15, 2009, 11:45:17 AM
re those mods you've done which is the -ve feedback on V1? I'm off to compare layouts.

Figured it out now, its the 3 way switching you added between pin 6 and 7.

have you left the mid and bass caps at 0.1  after you changed the slope resistor to 60k?

Yes, I left them intact, I like loads of open bass frequencies. But if you look at the Ceriatone’s bluesmaster layout you’ll see 48 k slop resistor, no NFB and smaller caps to clean up to much bass.
Larry’s amp (probably Matt’s too) has plexyflex overdrive – more edgy and marshally.
I prefer smoother drive tone.

Hi Hywel,

I've played Larry's Bludo which is blusemaster clean and I've also modified my amp’s clean section (60 k slop resistor and no NFB on V1), also permanent 60pf on volume pot.
Huge clean sound.
Bludo was bigger, it’s 100 w. Killer amp.

Cheers

Usually it’s a copper foil. Aluminium would do as well.
But in my case it introduced a hum, so I removed it.
Works perfectly without any shielding.

Probably BLUESMASTER (not sure about fenderish though). Wink

What is better – 50 bucks or 100? Huh?
Now you know! Grin
327  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Overtone Non HRM 100 watt vs 50 Watt on: August 08, 2009, 02:13:38 PM
100% --- 100 Watt.
Nice clean headroom and smoooooooother overdrive.
328  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Overtone Soundclips on: July 31, 2009, 05:34:36 PM
Thanks Steven.

Thanks Hywel,
Matt is great player, lovely singer and good friend - must see bluesman.
Hope you enjoy Bonamassa and his four amp wall of sound.

Small, dark and dirty club! Cradle of the BLUES.
Hope you enjoy it.

Cheers
330  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Step by step BM HRM build... on: June 21, 2009, 08:34:58 PM
Hey Mcinku,

Thanks my man, really lovely playing and nice clips too.
OTS sounds great for my taste – very Dumbley.
BM HRM is nice but different, especially in the drive department, on the recording anyway.
Best wishes
