301  Ceriatone / Overtone / fizzy edge on: September 03, 2008, 10:44:25 AM
Hi Guys

I was wondering about something. I noticed my OTS produces a sharp (fizzy) edge when I turn the gain up. This is more apperant with the PAB engaged and when using humbuckers.

It's not a big deal cause the amp sounds nice at medium gain settings, but it would be a bit more versitile if "high" gain would sound good as well.

What are your experiences. My OD trimmer is (factory) set at 11.

cheers
Steven

302  Ceriatone / Overtone / EMG's on: August 27, 2008, 12:26:16 PM
Hi Guys

Do any of you play a guitar with EMG's thought the OTS?

Satisfied?
I have a strat with EMG's (humbuckers with coil splitter and Single Coil) and it doesn't sound to good.

maybe this helps

I asked the same question on the amp garage site. Yoy might look there.

I have a Kleinulator. I just ordered the loose parts to stick them in a 19 inch rack. The stadard box is fairly big. If you use a rack anyway, it might be something to think about.

are you sure the footcontroler switches on the back of the amp are set properly?
306  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Panic on: August 17, 2008, 01:52:05 PM
thanks alot!!

If you say it didn't come from the amp or the Kleinulator I feel relieved Tongue
Maybe I had it stuck under my or something.

307  Ceriatone / Overtone / Panic on: August 17, 2008, 01:35:01 PM
The other day I opened my OTS to bend some resistors away from leads. I was carefull and all went well.
Now I found this on my floor

I'm afraid it came from my amp. I have no idea what it is and how it ended up here.
the only thing I have in my house is a Kleinulator kit and some old Fender Blender parts which I looked at this morning.

HELP!!!

Yeah I have the G-Sharp as well. Pretty good IMHO. 24 bit A/D conversion.
After years of using Reverb I tend to go for a lttle bit of delay. Hardly noticable but it wets the sound nicely.

sounds like you have an European version to me.
Better contact Nik.
310  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Shaping your tone 'without' a soldering iron. on: August 14, 2008, 02:48:37 PM
This is a great topic!!

I have a small problem I want to put forward. It seems I get a nasty (fizzy) endge on my OD when I turn up the gain. Even more so when I use humbukcers. I have the latest lay-out. My OD trimmer is set at about 11 o'clock. (I also use the Kleinulator)

I don't realy need a very high gain. Sounds very nice set at 4. But still it's a shame it starts to sound bad when I turn it up. maybe this is common with this amp?

One more thing. Would it be bad to use one tube of a different barnd? I have JJ's, they don't make the LPS tube as far as I can tell.

Cheers
Steven

I often find the sound of the PAB to be boxy. What do you guys think? I realise the 3 switches have an influence on the sound of the PAB. Anything else I could try? (without a soldering iron).

Obviously there is a difference between PAB on and PAB off. I can't figure out what controls the difference in level though.

I have the G sharp as well. Works quite well.

With the Kleinulator you'll get a "sweeter"sound. Less punchy and in your face. also a bit less open. Well at least that is my impression.
I'd say with the Kleinulator it's less harsh but if you hit a chord you can't hear the individual strings as good.

I'm pretty happy with the both the G-Sharp and the Kleinulator. For a cheap piece of gear the G# leaves your sound pretty much in tact (try A/B with the bypass switch). maybe it's because of the 24 bit a/d coverter? Having said that I use my fx "sparingly" (RF Quote).

Do you guys feel it's better to use a tiny bit of delay instead of reverb? I kinda like it. even less colouring

Doesn't the BBE alter your tone to much?

Hi

actually it was "fairly" simple.
I took out the front board and removed the metal strip and the tolex on the rear and the sides (left the front tolex in place).
I went to the DIY shop and asked them to saw of a milimeter from both short sides. Actually I still had to do some serious sanding after that.

We used a staple gun to attach the cloth to the wood. starting with one of the long sides. This cloth has straight lines so aligning was fairly easy.
then we did the other long side making sure it was tight (no hard pulling! just straightning) and nicely alligned.
The hardest bit was doing the corners. you have to cut away as much fabric as possible or it will leave a thick lump in the corners. but not to much. Just f9old it tightly over the corners.
Sanded down the metal strip a bit and made sure I used the same holes when putting the nails back in.

Even I could do it.
