IMO it's not about toneloss in the first place. I had clipping problems without the C-lator.

Yup, it's better to have a Klein- or C-lator with D-style amps. If you use effects in the loop like reverb or delay it's a must with most units.
I don't think the sound difference is THAT big with the c-lator (this is what I use). You can search for a thread I made where I recorded the difference with and without the C-lator.
Also the bright switches are very cool

My advice: If you use effects in the loop, get one. If not, it's a cool extra feature but not really necessary.

Would that be like switching between a bluesmaster and a skyliner then? Or would it just sound different but not like a bluesmaster (for example)?
I think that would be a really cool thing since nearly nobody seems to use the jazzsetting.

I've read somewhere that the rock/jazz switch switches between two different tonestacks (I don't know whether this is right or not. I have absolutely no idea about electronics in an amp).
The Jazz setting isn't very usable for my style, so I wanted to ask you whether it's possible to change the jazz tonestack?
For example to a bluesmaster type tonestack.

Tube is the standard one delivered with that unit, no changes there. IN, OUT and DRIVE were set at Noon (DRIVE), Full (IN) and 4 o'clock (OUT) like mentioned above

Amp volume was quite high, Preamp volume was on 7, master on 4 on amp. Drive at noon, input full and out at 4 (thats like the volume with the same settings without the d'lator).

The only real settings you can choose from the C-lator are 2 bright switches which are supposed to make up for high cable length. Both were switched off. It's right that I played with low gain, a little higher gain with PAB But that's just my style. I don't play high gain stuff

To the effects: The effects themselves sound exactly the same with or without C-lator, but there is a difference in volume. Without the C-lator the effects start clipping at higher volume levels, with the C-lator that is solved. That's the original purpose of that unit. And for that it works just perfectly.

I got my C-lator yesterday and since there is no proper A/B comparison clip between Dlator/non-Dlator with exactly the same assembly of cables, knob settings, etc. I thought I'll do my own.

So here it is: Played the same lick the whole time: First 3 chords then some single note stuff. At the end I made a chord with vol pot of guitar (stratocaster) at 10, then the same chord with volume rolled back to 7.

First part is clean with C-lator.
Second clean without C-lator

Third overdriven with C-lator
Fourth overdriven without C-lator

Fifth overdriven + PAB with C-lator
Sixth overdriven + PAB without C-lator

Seventh overdriven + PAB with C-lator
Eigth overdriven + PAB without C-lator


Kept the microposition the same the whole time and had the same cable length in the loop when I played without C-lator as when I played with it. (Replaced the C-lator with a true bypass box). Pickup of guitar wasn't changed either.

I don't really hear THAT much difference, sure there is difference, but in my opinion it's not much.
I always thought when i read the comments about the C-lator (or other D-lators) here, it sounds like a whole new amp then.

I just got my Clator and I have to agree with all of you. That's the way to go. I'm using a Lexicon LXP-1 for reverb which already has an input and output gain level control. But with the Clator it is on another level. Plus, the Clator really changes your amps tone a little. Makes the whole amp sound smoother.

Hm, but Mayer uses 2x G12-65, 2x Celestion Gold and 2x Celestion Century himself?
There's a G12-65Heritage in my 1x12" Combo right now. Maybe the EVM-12L would be a good match in a second 1x12" box Or a Celestion gold 
Or both in a 2x12" 

As far as I know the Paraloop or other parallel loop devices like the Lehle Parallel (unless it's a parallel FX Loop Buffer like the Fuchs) don't Buffer your FX Loop at all.

I think the only way in the price range 100-150$ is a kleinulator. Never heard of any other comparable unit in that price range.

Thanks for that, but I don't have purchased a Century. I have a G12-65 in my 1x12" combo and think about a second cabinet which compliments the other. But I guess there's still lots of time. Just purchased a new guitar and a C-lator...

I think that would help lots of players to decide which amp is the right one for their needs.
