The BM sounds very dark in comparison.
Yes it does... since than I replaced the speaker... from G12-65 to Gold and it's much better. Well on that youtube, I'm using both actually 1265 and Gold. I also prefer to use SC guitar with my BM. This amp can make a SC guitar sound huge. I also plan on modding the amp slightly... I will try to increase the value of the slope resistor a bit. The plan is to make this amp friendlier to HB guitar as well. All this does not change the fact that this amp has way better string definition and also... this amp has become my no1 amp, but that's just my preference of course. Like I said, you need to hear this amp in person, side by side. Well, next time I'm in your neighbourhood, I'll pop by ;-)

mcinku, du you have a link to that post??
Here it is... http://ceriatoneforum.com/index.php?topic=1160.msg8569#msg8569...just for the record, the difference between those two amps was not captured quite right in that recording. You need to stand in front of the amps... with master volume on 5... only than you can hear the real character of these amps. IMO Thanks mcinku - I've listened to your sound clips and must admit that I prefer the sound of the OTS over the BM. The BM sounds very dark in comparison.

Read all the posts on this forum (and on ampgarage.com as well) like the rest of us have done over time and you will get all relevant information there is on the Dumble subject.
Also take a listen to peoples sound clips on this forum and find what you like.

When wiring the tube sockets I wire pins 2 to 2 and 7 to 7 on the 6l6's and pins 9 and 4 to 9 and 4 on the pre's, correct? then would it be pin 2 from the 6l6 to pin 4 on the pre's and pin 7 form the 6l6 to pin 9 on the pre's?
Thanks Tim
Please take a look at the layout - its all there

Ya figured that out..Thank you gotta look at the layout with a closer eye Still can't seem to find out where the black wire goes from the ot don't see it on the layout Does that go to a star ground?
NO!!!!! Check the wiring layout! Blue wire to pin3 on tube 4 (inner output tube) Black wire to pin3 on tube 5 (outer output tube)

Mcinku, that's interesting. I hear those Carol Ann amps really sing.
It's somewhat over-complicating it though I think - the thought was more about a small mod to take advantage of something that's already there, rather than building a whole new preamp channel.
My point exactly! - just use a relay set up like this: - Pole1 switches the INPUT of the OD between HRM and standard/Non-HRM input - Pole2 switches the output of the OD to go through the HRM tone stack or bypass Quite simple and no additional tubes.

I your amp is a standard HRM-amp with high plates, then its a brilliant idea to add a relay to make the second EQ switchable, If you also make the input of the OD switchable between 'HRM-input-OD' and standard 220k input.
Its not as obvious with a BluesMaster amp, since it uses different plate values, which (to my best knowledge) are not used in other D-style amps.

Hi Steven, It looks pretty good, I have a couple of questions for you: 1) Which Orance drop caps did you use (715,716, 225 or?) 2) How do you connect both the dynacord and the Rocktron 3) Do you run the effects in serial or parallel mode PS: I love the name "Rollator" :-D

Sorry Pickmaster, but I don't agree with you at all. A 'dead' material for a guitar cabinet is a big no no in my book.
Probably in your book , but not in acoustic science books and please don’t tell me that you don’t give a toss about science. 1x12 cabinet’s baffle (and rear plate if it’s a closed back) has to be as rigid and heavy as practically possible. Otherwise you will get loads of additional parasitic vibrations, phase cancellations, changes in a response time curve – delayed attack, inertness and efficiency loss. You maybe like 4mm baffle, but inside 2x12 cab (especially in a closed back) it will act as a third speaker (lower efficiency) moving in reverse phase damaging your tone and possibly cabinet itself if played loud. Obviously tone is a matter of taste but I prefer to follow scientific laws as much as practically possible in acoustics and experimental facts. Fenderman, you just love to argue, aren’t you? And pickman loves to read science books. ;-D Seriously, focus on tone and forget what you read in hifi magazines and popular science magazines. Yes, a 4 mm baffle works like a third speaker....well, so what. If it sounds great, it is great.

Yes, traditional hifi speaker cabinets are made from dead materials, although, recently some Hifi speakers producers, like e.g. 'Harbeth', have discovered the beauty of resonating guitar cabinets, and make their Hifi Speaker cabinets accordingly.
A classic guitar cabinet (top, bottom and sides) is made from pine wood with plywood front and back baffle. This the recipe for all classic fender cabinets (tweed and blackface) - and thats what Dumble used for his cabinets as well.
My best sounding guitar cabinet is made from Pine with 4mm front baffle and 2 x 12G65. It resonates like a giant acoustic guitar!!
Victor, if like the sound of your new cab, then thats just fine. If you want to improve the cab - don't dispair... just change the front baffle wood from particle board to birch plywood. 4-6 mm will work fine with your speaker unit. A heavier speaker like a EV12L needs a 8-10mm.
