And Nik will supply them at reduced cost (he gets the volume discount and passes it on). Thats what I've done with my Plexi 50 build, paid Nik two amounts via PP, one for the kit and one for the MM's. Kit from Malaysia and MM's direct from US. Couldn't have been simpler.
I have asked about a dual primary OT for 6v6's and 6L6's but nothing at the moment. Will keep asking.
Xotic RC is just for a clean volume boost. Different to PAB which changes your tone and give a bit more drive, the RC will drive V1 harder depending where you have the clean volume set.
Having noted the diference in tone between running clean with Volume 2 and Master 8 and Volume 6-8 and Master 2 I think PS has something to offer.
I do know that poweramp distortion isn't part of what the OTS does, but, what does occur is the addition of harmonics when driving the amp harder and its this that I like. I'm still not sure about retro fitting PS to my 50watter, however when I get around to doing a 100watt HRM it will have PS fitted (in addition to 5k OT tap to properly run 6V6's)
Steven, one of the first thing I noticed about the presence pot was that it did very little until it gets to 2 o'clock.
Something that Matt Schofield showed me when dialling in an unfamiliar amp. Take each tone control one at a time and very rapidly sweep from 0 to 10. Doing this you will find where the 'cusp' is, i.e. the point at which the rate of change of the effect is greatest. Using this knowledge you can then more easily work the interaction of the tone controls.
I have found the Overtone HRM to be a very flexible amp, but it does not like my pedals too much. So I don't use them.
the clean channel of mine loves my pedals, an Xotic BB and Rc and a Menatone Red Snapper. Have to be careful with the OD channel though, usually only the the RC OR the Red Snapper.
I have heard mixed reports from amp techs about how they 'expect' powerscaling to work with the OTS. One says it will work well and allow the power section to get 'cooking' and another says that this type of amp, essentially a clean power section, won't respond well to PS.
I' have PS in my Dc-30 and love it and would like to fit it to my OTS so I am very keen to hear how you get on with it.
Thanks my man, Jimi is my hero! I’m honoured. The band is Hot Hob blues jam band in Brentwood headed by our forum's Mr. John Edmonds who is lovely player himself. To prove that here is his playing on slow blues on the same jam. Fuchs belongs to him by the way. And big SORRY for my singing!
This is premature on my part as i haven't built my Plexi kit yet but I'm thinking ahead. My next build will probably be a 100watt BM HRM, however I want to be able (not exclusively though) to run it with 6V6's. So I need an OT with dual primaries (5k and 8k I think but I'll stand correction)
Does anyone know who does them?. I have seen the Bludo (I think) YT video where this is mentioned so someone must make them.
Alternately try this. Master 8, Volume 1-3, Level 6-7, Ratio 2-3 TMB to taste. I prefer the 6L6's cooking a little. I also use an attenuator at home/rehearsal but not at a gig.
Try it without the Boss in the loop, my experience with Boss stuff is limited but I do know they are not the same level of 'audio quality' as the OTS.
You should check the OD trimmer setting and this has a huge effect on the OD sound. Most people agree somewhere between 9 and 11 o'clock is good. I moved mine to the back panel so I can adjust it at will. SC's require slightly different settings to HB's
V2 snubber caps do make a difference. Pickmaster published some mods one of which was a DPDT ON-OFF-ON switch to change the snubber cap values. I usually run it with the highest value, though I can't remember exactly what that was, I do know its way higher than the 330-390pF of the standard/modded OTS's.
Of the o/d's that I have tried the Menatone red Snapper is really good for light O/D and the Xotic BB for crunch/marshallesque gain. I also have an Xotic BB which I use as a clean boost, very transparent.
Xotic Ac is not bad but not as good as the other two, and a Menatone TBIAC mimics an AC30 which is not so good, better through the clean of an OTS IMO, the DC30 channel 1 has too much of that AC30 going on already. Just acquired a Menatone Blue Collar (Marshall JCM800 ish) and thats a bit too much also, better thro' the OTS.
Becasue the DC30 has such a nice vibrant clean, you probably need an OD with a mellow top end.
