Well, scalling only the power tubes was just beyond my understanding, at least based on the instructions Dana sends. Nik was so kind of trying tyo guide me trhough it, but I believe I will do the whole amp mod instead. I will probably take out the MV control (wich I don't like at all) and use that place for the VVR.
The only use for the orginal MV I found was for bedroom level practice. But it doesn't do any good in terms of taming the amp at gig or band practice. I hope the VVR makes a difference...
Cheers!
With the London Power version you really do need a master volume (he calls it Drive Compensation) since as you lower the B+ the tubes behave differently and you will overdrive them progressively earlier. On mine you have to turn th DC and PS down together otherwise it all turns to mush.

Fender amps typically use 100K plate resistors.
But then don't you know this?
Still learning.....

@ blues. I think I do not need to pay VAT if the total packge is less then $100. Couldn't find a Heyboer OT in Europe. besides I wouldn't know which one to order. I read some post on the ampgarage and I thought what the heck I'll just ask Bludo to ship me an OT and I'll worry about the rest later. If we have unified rules in the EU then it is $32. I feel I need to post a clip with my setup but I'm a bit shy ;-) and I need to find the time.
I'm sure Erwin will record something using you amp

; lowered the v1a plate resistor to 100;
What effect will that have?

Often wondered what the difference will be with a really good set of trannies. look forward to hearing some clips!
I got MM for my Plexi build but will have nothing to compare them with.

Follow the wires connecting to the 12v power supply board, they connect to one of the left most two pins on the relay.
If the relay is in the wring way round it wont work. Try it.
Then check contniuity on your pedal, and check how the 12v supply changes at the relay when you operate the switches.

Check your socket wiring, what about all the checks you made initially have you redone them? ie line level in at FX loop, FX loop out to another amp, bias still OK etc. trouble shooting is just a matter of being thoroughly methodical and breaking the testing down into bits to eliminate various possibilities.
I'd hesitate to suggest it but consider chopsticking various signal path connections, based on your results from the fx loop tests above. If you don't know what I mean then you probably shouldn't do it, it is dangerous.

Steven, I hope you like the RC. I find it very transparent and it does what the Boost ought to do on the OTS, so I intend leaving my PAB installed and use th RC. BTW you can alter how the PAB affects your volume by turning everything up ie if you normally run TMB at 5 3 5 then try the PAB when you have the TMD at 7 5 7, it has less of an impact, though you might not like your tone at 7, 5, 7

Hi Doc. This project will have to wait a little while I have a 4x10 (Jensen P10r's, closed back ported) to finish this weekend, only the wiring to do and back to cover. Then its on to my Plexi50 kit, followed by finishing off my Strat respray. Enough to keep me going!
I have always had in mind a 1x15 though, when I built my DC-30 combo I got enough cream tolex and brown grille cloth deliberately. Would you reckon the Jensen Neo is superior to that Celestion B150? I thought it sounded wonderful.

Thanks Hans,
Yes it's tweaked but in my experience tweaks can be minimal. Just Three most important ones: 1. Change V1 slope resistor from 150k to 77k – adds more touch sensitivity, sweetness and “chirp” 2. Choice and combination of V2 high cut capacitors.
Hi Doc, I think those speakers have a lot to do with the brightness of the tone. I love the fatness of the B150 reckon I will have to build a little 1x15 ext cab. My cab has an EV and a G12-65 and it needs something like the Century to liven it up a little. I note that your original mod was to change the slope resistor to 100k, but you've gone a little further now to 77k. If thats giving the amp that lovely bright tone I will have to do that mod. I did the V2 snubbers mod with the SPDT switch but I nearly always run it with the max cap values, maybe I need to go a little higher with the values.

I read on metroamp forum that the secondaries shouldn't have a short to ground, and a short indicated a bad PT.
But bear in mind the difference between a short to ground and 1-2 ohms is not that much and you need a good meter to read those sort of numbers. A cheap meter will give you the wrong answers .

ok so the build quality is good. how about the materials used?were they made in USA?
Good is not an exclusively USA thing y'know....
