227  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: How do you handle humbuckers with the OTS on: March 31, 2009, 06:53:12 AM
Hi
@Marin yeah I meant the 59's sorry

@ all. I have my OD trimmer at 9.30
thanks for you input!!
It's not so much the volume I'm worried about. It's the fact that with humbuckers my clean tone will distort fairly quick and my OD tone sounds awfull when I turn the clean volume up to much (more then 3)
Maybe a change of pickups would be nice.

Last night I swapped my PI tubed for a 12AX7LPS. I have the impression it's a bit better now.
I guess it's hard to balance this amp just right.

LOL
I have a 12AX7LPS in V1. I do like your sound alot though. Will try it asap.
229  Ceriatone / Overtone / How do you handle humbuckers with the OTS on: March 30, 2009, 08:54:07 AM
Hi Guys
I'm still struggling a bit with using my Hamer Studio (Seymore Duncan '59's) with the OTS (regular type).

I have my amp set up this way:
clean volume = 4.5/5
the OD Level = 4
the Ratio       = 6
Master          = 5
OD Trimmer   =9.30
I use the Klein to change the volume.
This works pretty good with the Tele (Kinmans) and a Strat with Texas Specials
With the Hamer I get a nasty razor edge on the OD sound though. I need to role back the volume of the clean channel to about 2,5/3.
With my Strat with EMG humbuckers it's even worse. I have to role to volume of the clean channel even further back to get an undistorted clean tone.

Is that the same with your setup?
Should I look for humbucker pickups with a lower output? I thoght the '59's aren't that hot.

Cheers
Steven

Maybe one or both FETs blew. This happened to me on bot my Klein's
In the new Klein lay out there's a zaner to protect the parts.
232  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: straight into the amp sounds different from through pedalboard. on: March 23, 2009, 12:25:09 PM
thanks for your help

as far as I know this version (new) of the Cry Baby is true Bypass. Could I use a buffer pedal??
233  Ceriatone / Overtone / straight into the amp sounds different from through pedalboard. on: March 23, 2009, 11:01:16 AM
I have a pedalboard with in the right order:
Korg Pitchblack tuner
Cry Baby 535Q
EMMA discumbobulator
Keeley TS9
Wampler Ecstacy Drive
I use GeorgeL patch cables
I use a Pedal Snake cable for the guitar signal from the board to the amp, the 9V adapter power, Midi and a leslie on/off switch.

As expected there's a difference in sound when I run my guitar directly into amp from the sound when I use my board.
Hard to describe the difference. It seems there's a bit more dynamics in the (OD) sound and the character of the guitar is a bit more detailed. With the pedal board the sound is a bit less direct and maybe a bit less harsh. Probably a high cut.

What could I do to optimize my board setup?

Second question. I use a fairly high grade adapter to power the effects on the board and to power the Kleinulator. This seems to prduce a nasty hum. Strangely enough I think this wasn't the case before. I have my PC running in the same room as my amp. Could it be a net problem? RFI/EMI?  Should I get a Furman? better power chord?

Thanks for your help guys :-)

it's easy
unsrew the back panel
unscrew the 4 screws on top (carefukll cause this will lower the amp a bit.
Carefully slide out the amp itself.  make sure you don't bump the tubes.
Put it on two wooden blocks or 2 stacks of books.
look for the black part on the board (carefull there are 2 or 3 of those trimmers. You need to adjust the one on the 2 pics above. Use a small screw driver and just turn the white part. If you tunr it all the way down there is no sound in the OD channel. if you set to 9-9.30. you get a nice overdrive with not much distortion. setting it highter will give you more and more distortion.
If I were you I'd switch of the amp when adjusting.

ps for a good tech it's simple to make a pot on the back of the amp. then you can adjust with the amp on

here's another picture  http://home.kpn.nl/s.scholten17/inside.jpg
it's the pot on the left half of the board. If you look from right to left to the pot you'll see it's probably set to somewhere around 10 or 11 o'clock.
