Erwin thanks mate, This amp is S&M and incoming one is an OTS. I wonder how it will take the tweaks.
I was in the presumption you modded your amp more towards a bluesmaster. Lower slope resistor etc.
That’s right, on V1 - 56k on slope with a switch goes to 150k and also another switch changes a 220k plate resistor to 150k. Lots of combinations. My favourite is 220k plate and 56k slope. I’m crazy perfectionist, I tweak all the time.
Hi Pickmaster, great playing and sound on those two 50 watt clips. Is the ratio control set to 8 on the amp, I cannot set mine to more than 2 or it will deafen me. Great playing.
Thanks Riverman, Yes, it's on 7, to match clean boost channel's level.
Seems to be capturing the sound well Doc, what make is it?. I bought a Rode SVM for my DSLR in order to try and record my band but the camera has no means of adjusting the level, its always on automatic so I do get some clipping unfortunately. It does seem as though your camcorder is doing a good job with the levels, does it have a manual level setting?
Hi Hywel, It is just an ordinary dynamic mic from Adam Hall UK http://www.adamhall.com/uk/AH_p--project_27__b--D1001S I’ve created little attenuator with 1k logarithmic pot works great for mic also you can use it for line out signal from the mixer. Here is a diagram. For stereo you need double pot and stereo mini jack. Cheers
Just bought a cheap external microphone for my camcorder and tried to record my 50 watter before my new 100 Watt OTS arrives this week. I’ll tweak it, dress it up and do a nice demo.
Why does every body use these things,i am happy with my Boss GT-10 in front of the amp.Is my sound getting better with one of those ---lators?, and how?
Well, It all depends what sound, tone you ara after. The beauty of the Dumble (good clone) is in it’s preamp section and D preamp is actually very high gain circuit! With external pedals you are adding unnecessary noise and you are changing the TONE. The best tube amps for the processors are stereo power amps like VHTs, Mesa etc. or non reverb, one channel tube amps with low gain inputs: Hiwatt, Bassman, old fender BASS guitar tube amps etc. On the other hand you can try GT-10 in the FX loop in D style amp. Because GT 10 has input and output gain regulation and high impedance input it will work well. Also you can use it’s EQ section and noise reduction with loads of nice effects. You can do all this with C-lator plus TC Gmajor which will also switch amp’s channels with MIDI or any other good reck unit. My favourite guitarist Allan Holdsworth uses loads of processors together with two tube amps and sounds incredible (IMHO). Anyway whatever makes you happy that’s the way to go. Cheers
All guys are correct here! Bigger output transformer = bigger tone, more HEADROOM for the clean tone and smoother drive. Not much difference in weight.
I forgot the question.... Have you an opinion about these 2 speaks ? The Commonwealth is supposed to have the JBL E120 tone, and the Delta Pro 12 supposed to be good to replace a EMV 12L. thanks !
Thanks my man! I really like EVM 12L so Delta pro 12 must be OK. Also I just love closed back, front tube ported 1x12 cab for EV !!! Alphonso Harmide makes nice ones, chek out the design.
Its a descendant of the Fane Cressendo, one of which I owned back in the 80's. Almost same specs as the Studio 12L, but it had an alumium voice coil, that I found kind of harsch at the time, but It was great for clean sounds. It reminded me of the Altec that Carlos Santana use in his Boogie Combo.
Today I would be happy to use that particular speaker, only with some treble bleed/higher snubbers in my Dumble Clones.
The 12L don't have alumium voice coil and it probably sounds very close to an EV12L.
Interesting! Thanks fenderman, I'd love to try one.
Sooooo...I was thinking. I don't use the PAB at all, and I love the clean and OD channel as it is. Wouldn't it be great to have a 3rd channel that is higher gain channel? Perhaps the PAB circuit could be used or maybe we could gut the FET circuit and use that board?
Anybody have this idea or am I out to lunch?
Good idea Phil, I have 6 channels in my OTS: clean, drive, more drive, plus boost on all three. But if you don’t use boost it would be much easier to tweak PAB relay for drive channel as shown on this two years old diagram.
Ceriatone and Les Paul.....with a little help from MM&W
Hi Phil, We all love music and good tone, so there is no place for competition. We just share joy of playing, same way we share air, water, nature. Enjoyed your playing and tone mate. Cheers
