226  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: 1/2 power switch on: November 02, 2007, 01:42:36 AM
Oh, ok, so it's not for me, I've ordered the 50w standard version.  It should arrive here next week.  Does the half power switch simply get off two power tubes?

Take a look at the 36 watt layout on the Ceriatone site for a "similar" wiring of a half power switch.  It is a fairly involved addition.

IMHO a half power switch on this particular amp is a bad idea.  These amps get their overdrive from the preamp into a clean power section.  With the extra 2 6L6's you are going to get a bit more headroom and a barely perceptible increase in measureable volume over the stock version.    However, the quad version has a fuller, rounded out, complete kind of tone to it.  That is the only difference.  So, I would suggest either hard wire it for one or the other and leave half power switching for amps that get their signature tones from overdriving their power sections.

Yes, where are getting your Dales from?  My suppliers over here have been out of stock for months and I need some.

Well, I can understand Nik's decision.  Nobody needs the kind of negativity and hostility circulating around the amp forums.  It's a good idea to let things cool down.  I will post my review, any pictures and soundclips here and only here.  I'm done with the politics over there.
229  Community / Chit Chat / Re: What kind of Music do you listen ? on: November 01, 2007, 01:37:06 PM
Nutcracker suite, Swan Lake, Cats soundtrack, and River Dance.  My 5 year old is doing ballet so every time I turn the stereo on....I have no say.......no sympathy from my wife either.

Aside from that,,,whatever my mood suites.  Jazz is pretty much the only form of music I can't tolerate for more than a song or two.  It's like perpetual foreplay.....

Get ahold of Terry Kilgore....."Sargeant Overdrive" Great guy with great NOS stuff.  Tell him if he ever wants that "special Love Rock" from Chris in Japan....He better give you a good deal on some glass....lol
231  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Cabinet Plans? Dimensions? on: November 01, 2007, 01:12:23 PM
Chassis dimensions are 19.25 x 8 x 2.5.   Once I get mine I will build a head cab in the traditional Fuchs, Two Rock....etc style.  I will post those plans.  Also, a combo cab is pretty easy as well.  Here is a wide body combo I threw together for my D'Lite.  (on the left)

Have a TMB EF86 as well. Purchased from Nik complete with speaker and combo cab about 2 months ago. Loving it very much. My very first all tube amp after 13 years of playing. So far all tubes are stock. Will check out some NOS. Any good suggestions what and where to get for the el84s and preamps ?

Thanks.

What are you using now?  JJ's are good all around but I'm kind of digging Tesla Rosnov EL84s and have a mullard in V1 and a couple old Sylvania's in V2 and V3.  I also have some old Matsushita pre's that sound pretty good.

I bought one for one of my customers and am tweaking the TMB channel to his needs and building a head and speaker cab.  It should be finished and then it will be gone Sad .  It's a nice amp.  I think if it were mine I would search around for a NOS ef86 to try out.

The half power switch is there should you decide to beef up the output to a 4 6L6 configuration.  I still have to check with Nik to get the PT and OT specs.  I suspect the PT will handle the extra current draw but there will be an impedance mismatch on the OT.  I will let you know.

Hey Weathered,

Good to see you here.  18watt is a great site but can get a little deep in terminology and intimidating for the novice builder.  I like to think we can act as a "hand holder" here......  I hope you can help out.

Joe,

Stellar looking build.  I looked at your site and it's a great reference for new builders.  There is a lot of what to do and more impotantly what not to do.....lol....with lead dress.  A little trouble shooting is always frustrating but makes for great lessons.   What are your thoughts on the tone and feel of this amp with all those Dales in there?

Hey, that sounds pretty good.  I love the driving sections.  The two amp tones work well together.

Just so you don't feel all alone, welcome aboard.

I will try to get some clips up by next week.
