I take it the lower unit is a preamp?  I think Dr Nik could do a much better job than that, with no goofy external Dumbleator needed.  Hopefully for aesthetics, he'd turn to some Boogie preamps for ideas.

You are not very respectfull towards the person, who invented the amps we are discussing on this forum.
Your remarks are downright superficial and shallow. And your reference to Nik as 'Dr. Nik' is a bit offensive as well, Nik didn't invent anything, but gave us Dumble amps really cheap, which is fine but not worthy of a Doctors degree.

Disagree totally. The preamp is the sound of the circuit. The dumble power amp ain't significantly different than a fender. Ethos proves it by getting dumble sounds out of a jfet based "umble" preamp.

I agree, although "speaker emulation" might have some bearing on tone.

I know many people on the Gear Page think as I. A Class D style tube preamp would be the greatest invention since the bread slicer.

Which is why Dumble himself 'invented' it back in the 80s  Tongue
213  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Which Overtone model for late 1980s Robben Ford? on: January 13, 2010, 06:08:53 PM
Nobody knows very much about Robben Fords amp, but the myth has it that Robben Ford used a Rivera Combo for the actual song 'talk to your daughter'

IMO the secret about Robben's sounds is that it's in his hands.  Cool

Yep so does my zendrive, to a degree but not 100% there....

Aha Mr. Multi Mod is back!!  Cool

Here ya go:

Remember to allow the next amp som 'burn in time' - around 100 hours - before you start modding!   Lips Sealed (Last time with your OTS, IMO you went a little overboard in mods, before the amp was even burned in. It confused a lot of people into thinking that the amp is no good as is.)
218  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Overtone rackmount PREAMP????? on: January 13, 2010, 07:14:13 AM
Great product idea, but you might be dissapointed by the sound of a preamp, through other poweramps/speakers. IMO the Dumble poweramp and EV12L or 12G65s are an integrated part of the sound.

Regards

Which Dumble model there around 250 different ones?
Don't worry too much about it. The OTS is a good sounding amp, thats all that really matters.
220  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Improvements to tonestack of HRM on: January 07, 2010, 11:29:50 PM
To be honest, I am starting to get the feeling there is nothing wrong and that it's our ears playing tricks somehow...

I just had both amps hooked up to a stereo cab with 2 G12-65s and I used an A/B box to be able to switch between both amps. Had the exact same settings on all knobs and started turning the tone knobs.
At first I thought I heard a difference in response of both Mid knobs but after playing for a while, I wasn't so sure anymore...

Thats a healthy conclusion you've reached. Our perception likes to play tricks on us.
Try to record your selfonce in a while. Its a good reality check on how you and your gear actually sounds.
221  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Presence=more attack? on: January 06, 2010, 02:10:45 PM
You need a 15p-40p bright cap on you master volume. Scott Lerner (Dogears) have made many opsts regarding this on ampgarage.

222  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: jazz switch on: January 05, 2010, 11:32:51 PM
Yes!

You gotta turn up the bass knob above 7

You might want to use the 'jazz' setting together with the FET input and adjust the FET trim for same gain level as when you use normal input in 'rock' (normal) mode.
223  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Improvements to tonestack of HRM on: January 05, 2010, 05:32:25 PM
I guess I prefer using a HRM amp in PAB mode, which in effect turn the amp into a marshall'esche circuit and tone. Don't expect great tones with both circuits (non-PAB mode)

224  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Can I get decent tones at bedroom level? on: January 05, 2010, 05:28:51 PM
Yes!

The OTS is (also) a charmer at lower levels

The HRM and BM likes to be played loud!
225  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Improvements to tonestack of HRM on: January 05, 2010, 02:43:02 PM
Regarding improving the tonestack

Try a 100k trimmer instead of the 33k slope resistor in the HRM circuit.

The HRM circuit (like every Fender or Marshall) tone stack has a mid dip. The 'dip' frequency can be adjusted with the slope trimmer - try going from 33k to 50k to 68k - which are common slope resistor values.

If you wish to simulate this: get the (free) Duncan TSC software. Works great.
