After much contemplation, I think it is about time we change how we do things.
1) We are not selling Parts anymore
We will not sell chassis, boards, tube sockets, pots etc anymore.
We will sell kits, and complete amps only.
I do not have time to update every single pics on the website every day. Our chassis has extra holes for mods or what not, and we get the blame of not same per picture products.
Nor buying a capacitor or faceplate entitles anyone for a full interview on how to do mods on an amp that I am not familiar with.
My interest has always been affordable, great amps for everybody. Making it affordable is no easy feat, there are many things to do to get there.
And with the recent "Buy American" campaign seen on various forums, my only defence is pricing enticing enough.
Well, not really "Buy American", as they're OK with Ibanez, Marshall, and a host other "foreign" brands. It's more like "Dont buy Malaysian" I guess.
And we have many more areas to cover, I'd rather be trying to come up with these models than updating catalog.
2) Kits
I am looking at offering Pack 2 as the minimum level. We have upgraded some of the trannies to quite crazy specs, and all others will follow.
Sorry folks, I do not work for xxx transformer manufacturer. If they can't provide the sizing, then how do I know?
The upside is, we will try to offer these at yet cheaper prices.
A new website structure with more info on things will be done.
So, that's it. What do you think?
How am I? The same, except now I just feel it;s just not worth it, emotionally. Yeah, the money's good and all, but... Lets just say, I think that if we make em good and cheap, and be done at that level, it'd be easier...
The BM does have nicer cleans than the HRM, perhaps.
The OD isnt as aggressive or in your face as HRM. It's a bit smoother, and not as gainy.
The PAB isnt direct to ground, we have added a resistor to it since people want to be boost not that much vs non boost position.
The biggest difference would be the preamp plate values.
And, in our PS, I have changed some resistor values so that the voltages in the preamp are to what I want.
The above, ie the dropping strings, do play a big role in things. Slight tweaks and it can get congested, or another node get voltages that's different than wanted.
Also, I think the BM would be friendly to humbuckers than single coils.
The layout should be out by next week on website.
I think the first BM (100W) went to Japan already.
Max clean headroom is usually achieved with Vol set high, like 2-3 o clock, and master set low, 11 o clock or so.
This'd depend on the guitar/setup used as well.
If it's not loud or sounding weird, a check is needed. A preamp tube might have failed.
A failed preamp tube doesnt mean no sound, the amp'd work still as sometimes, only 1 side of the triode (12AX7 has 2 triodes) has died, or not working correctly.
The best way to verify is by looking at voltages. The plate and cathode voltages will be quite way off than usual.
Sorry to say, but Tungsol reissue 12AX7s had a lot of issue with 1 side failing, for some reason.
We did use some before, so if your amp has Tungsol 12AX7s, and sounding weird, this is to be checked.
I am not sure if the new ones are fine, could have been a bad period / batch from them.
Thanks, thats great! I am glad you're enjoying the amp.
The HRM's cleans are indeed not to be underestimated, as well, indeed. I think it's a bit darker than fenders. The S&M was more on the Fender type of brightness, but with lots of harmonics underneath.
As for 50W, if you need to convert to 100W, it's mainly trannies and extra tubes, along with new PS board. The rest are pretty much the same thing. If you're inclined for wiring, I think it's a doable project thats not too hard.
