Very cool. Cool

Believe me, I've done some very silly mistakes too. It's really par for the course. Either it's late and you should have stopped an hour earlier or you just do it wrong. Keep checking connections and voltages and get back to us.

I want to get just a bit more out of my OD channel on my OTS 50. I've read about some people removing the "snubber" caps on V2. What does this do? And these are the caps that are across pins 1&3 and 6&8 right?
Thanks, Bill
Yes, those are the right ones. As far as more OD? I understand that they are there to roll off some high end and smooth out the OD. I think I remember reading that gain is increased some without them. I have a HRM which doesn't have them. It does seem to have rawness that I don't hear in the regular OTS. Whether that translates to more OD based on your opinion is hard to say.

Hopefully some others will chime in that have first hand experience.

I see the PT has the voltages marked so as long as you got those correct then your good. But did you happen to check the PT to be providing the proper supply before wiring?

The pics are good, but more with a bit more light would be better. Have the camera facing straight on for the components on the bottom of the chassis and then angled as best you can to get straight on for the stuff on the walls of the chassis. I know taking photos is a pain, but can be really helpful.

Check out what Todd noticed and then from there a methodical voltage check from mains on through would be in order. I notice many times when you start tracing the circuit to take voltages you will find any mistakes in wiring.

Don't worry about us pointing out errors or being a "newb". It's the only way to learn.  Wink

Having said that, like Todd mentioned, some of your connections are a little on the questionable side of things. I hate having to do this, but sometimes just cutting the connection and redoing it is what is best. Sometime I will try to rework a connection that didn't quite go the way I intended and end up making it even worse. So out come the snips and strippers. And I don't mean the kind that dance with poles. Shocked

The best way to help us trouble shoot your build is to take as many clear, close photos as you can. Then post them here. We take a look at you solder joints for instance and maybe spot a bad or improper connecton.

Making sure the PT is wired properly is important. Did your PT come with wiring specs?

here is one of my trio playing earlier this year

sorry its a long clip... but dont have time at the moment to shorten it

amp is 50W HRM with Klein

guitars are Edwards ELP130 with duncan antiquities, and partsocaster with lipstick pickups

Nice playing and tone.

I love my HRM 50. Great amps for sure. What speaker(s) are you using?
171  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Overtone ots/hrm in the church arena on: October 08, 2011, 05:09:07 AM
I think I understand what you're asking for here. I think it would be a fine amp for church or ccm. The only thing I would ask, is how much tonal versatility do you need. If you're just doing mostly rhythm backing and non-overdriven stuff you could probably get away with something simplier. Like a single channel type amp. But if you do soloing and especially overdriven soloing (and rhythm) and need versatility then it will be a great amp. And IMO the HRM is very versatile. It won't go into feedback/bloom/sustain at lower volume levels as easily as the standard OTS, but I think sometimes that gets too much emphasis anyway.

I get so many useable tones out my HRM that I can't imagine not being able to fit in most genre's of music. I suppose maybe Death Metal dropped D chugging at 130dB might be out. But then again I can get it to be rather raunchy also.

Also something to consider. These amps seem to be very pedal friendly. So if there is some type of OD tone you can't get, a pedal on the clean channel will probably do the trick.  Cool

I suppose the bigger decision will be whether to get a 50 or 100 watter.

Looks great!! It's nice to see a kit build. It's been a while.

I bet it sounds great.

This one turned out really great!! You were in the pocket for sure.
174  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Recording Sound Clips on: September 20, 2011, 07:13:28 PM
What is everyone using to to record the sound clips I see here for the OTS Series.  I'd like something that I could use to record and post on You Tube.  Or even just recordings on here.

Reasonably price suggestions?  i.e. resonably  = $ 300 US or less.
There's many different ways to go about it, but this has been a very useful tool for me. And reasonably priced.

175  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Special cables for buffered effects loop? on: September 19, 2011, 05:43:44 PM
I believe you may be referring to low capacitance coax like these.  http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/coaxialcableconnectors3.php
But what you read is those talking about the short runs to and from their non-buffered loop on the amp to the buffered loop (ie: C-lator/D-lator) outside the amp. Also I beleive they may also use them in short runs to and from the effects in the buffered loop. But only short runs. This is done to try to micro-manipulate loss and also frequency response.

It would be my opinion that in your situation dealing with long runs to and from your effects that just a good quality relatively low capacitance shielded guitar/instrument cable would be the thing to use.

Preamp.

But they really open up the more they're cranked.

Some might think they're not the best "bedroom" amp, but I feel you can get very good (recordable) sounds at lower volumes.
177  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Overtone Soundclips on: September 15, 2011, 11:05:18 PM
Sounds great. The solo on "can't find my way home" is tasty.  Smiley

Sounds really nice, burst59. I'd like to hear you with the B3 too!  Cool
179  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: A newbie impressions of the HRM OTS on: September 12, 2011, 02:08:24 AM
Re the build date, is there a way to tell ie serial number etc?
You know I'm not sure. I built mine so I don't know if Nik puts a S/N or date on it somewhere. Email Nik and ask. He's great about communicating about all things amps, especially if it's one of his.
180  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: A newbie impressions of the HRM OTS on: September 10, 2011, 04:29:29 PM
I know what you mean. I have had an all Mesa stereo setup w/ 50/50 at one time too. I also owned a couple Fenders Twins at one time. But the HRM 50 was a whole new experience. Your decription of the touch sensitivity is right on. They're beautiful amps.  Cool

Do you know when the amp was built?
