Do you guuys agree that is brightens up the sound? without adding treble. Just making it less dull sounding?
152  Ceriatone / Overtone / Presence for brightness on: November 02, 2009, 08:44:00 AM
I made an interesting observation. I have a regular OTS ad one of Erwins D-lators.
Used a Kleinulator before that.
I always felt the amp lacked some brightness when using a fx loop like the Klein or D-lator. Using the Bright swicth makes the whole sound thinner and it's not realy usable with the OD
I have learned (with help from Erwin) that the amp brightens up a lot when you add more Presence. I wasn't to keen on using a lot of presence cause it adds attack and I like a fairly mild attack, but it does wonders for the sound. It takes away that blanket over the speaker thing.
The thing I do notice is that this doesn't seem to be a gradual effect. It start to work on about 7. (we checked the presence pot is linear)

what are you views on this?

I use Sovtke 5881's ( so does Larry Carlton). Some people think the Winged C's are very good, but I didn't like them much. I think it's all a matter of taste.

There is a lot of information on tbues o this forum. I think Tung Sol is good and I think most people recommend LPS tubes in the PI.

Cool. Never been there, but I bet it's a beautifull country
bit far to compare amps maybe ;-)

Ah I thought you were from France, Don't know why.
I won't gamble on your country of origin. Might make a painfull mistake.

France?
Would be right around the corner for me ;-)

OK tnx for clearing that up
159  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: 2X12 Combo?? on: October 24, 2009, 11:41:35 AM
are you sure about this?
I'd expect it to work differently ( if you set the switch to 8 ohm you can connect an 8 ohm speaker to each output)

Hi
also try Level on 4 and ratio on 6. If you turn the amp up it sounds less buzzy
161  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: 2X12 Combo?? on: October 19, 2009, 11:32:27 AM
WOW an OTS 2x12 combo must be very very heavy to carry.

You're welcome
LOL that's all beyond me. Luckily Erwin knows what he's talking about. We just did some A/B/C testing and agreed the OD sounded best. I think if you listen to the clips it gives a pretty good idea.

Hi Steven,
It looks pretty good, I have a couple of questions for you:

1) Which Orance drop caps did you use (715,716, 225 or?)
2) How do you connect both the dynacord and the Rocktron
3) Do you run the effects in serial or parallel mode

PS: I love the name "Rollator" :-D

Hi
1 The Orange Drops are OD 6ps/225P. Read earlier in this post plz (no idea about this, just trusted my ears)

2/3 I run everything in series, OTS-->Rollator-->Dynacord --->Rocktron-->Rollator-->OTS (the whole signal goes though the Rollator)
But!
The Dynacord is moddified and is now true bypass
The Rochtron (only used for Reverb, Delay, Tremelo and Chorus) has an internal mixer. The dry signal stays analog and you mix in the (digital) effect. So only the wet singnal goes through an A/D converter. I feel this is very important. In a sense the Rocktron is almost parralel

I would have preferd Verdumulator myself, but this was Erwins choise

Yeah Hans. I highly recommend visiting Erwin. I could even drop of my 19 inch Klein so you can compare it to " the real " tube thing.
(no I don't have shares in Erwins company  Grin )
