Not the same. The Express OT has 5K2 and 6k6 taps, ie multitapped on the primary.

Thanks!

Would be good to answer this since we get this all the time:

There's nothing special in the wire or way we twist the heaters.

We use regular UL1015 wire (PVC), and then clamp 1 side (use whatever, a real clamp even)and twist.

Work patiently, you'd be able to see if the twist goes nice or not.

Twist quite some length. You'd cut em to do each section (tube to tube). Approx roughly before cutting - cut extra, cause you'd need to solder, and then re-shape so it sits nice.

I guess a video would be good for this. But key is twisting nicely, and also patience! Smiley

Thanks!

Hi

Abt speaker = yeah, thats true.

A G12H is abt 25W ea, so thats abt 50W in a 2x12.

When pushed, the amp does exceed that, sometimes it's doing more like 70W or so.

But if you dont push em that hard that often, it'd be good.

I heard good things abt WGS speakers too, their celestion clones. Would be good to check out those...

Thanks!

From the inside pics, I think we did wire this.

How's she sounding??

Thanks!

Hi man,

There's indeed a few ways people seems to do it.

But, the simplest would, as the name suggest, is just 1 wire.

And this is basically separating the 470K resistors, and tying one of em to the 68K resistors.

It's best to do it with a switch I think, to get back the stock plexi circuit.

And perhaps, to have a bright switch. My plexi doesnt have bright cap even on the bright pot. With the switch, that can be selected.

The hard part is, it can go a bit unstable when set very high. A lot of playing with the lead dress.

But you dont have to set it at 10 all the time. Balance the 2 vol pots to get the sound you want I guess.

I will make a layout soon. I'd footswitch the thing Smiley (normal switch can also be used of course)

Thanks!

157  British Style / Plexi Lead, Bass, Superlead / AFD Tone on: July 08, 2010, 09:49:51 PM

Guys,

Lots of talk abt AFD these days.

How abt this? Just normal Plexi50 with 1 wire mod.

Dude's asking if he got the tone. I say he's quite there! Smiley

Maybe I'll release it.

AFD 501 - Amplifier For Daddy

OK, those not familiar, AFD = Appetite for Destruction, ie GnR/Slash.

Thanks!

Hi

Yes, we do have a few thousand Sozo caps lying around, indeed! Smiley

I am trying to make a jig to burn em in.

I guess just hook up AC from the wall to em. But doing em 50 pcs at a time, that might require some thinking on the jig.

Thanks

161  Website, Store / Ceriatone.com / Online contest or raffle, anyone? on: July 07, 2010, 03:49:45 PM
Hey guys,

I thought of an online raffle. Maybe towards the upkeep of the forum.

  What do you think?

Winner gets an amp. USD 1 per ticket?

  Sir Moderator, what think you?

Thanks!

I am starting to use lots of dummy loads. Making em, to burn in amps.

So thanks for the info! Smiley

But we try it with speakers first to check tone, before burn in.

I guess if let to run for a long time, that'd kill the tubes or OT for sure.

Thanks

Hi there,

The amp looks more like the Plexi50 from outside.

BUT, the same faceplate is used for Plexi50 bass, and the JTM50.

The JTM45 would have a different faceplate.

Best way is to open and take pics of insides, to see what it is, circuit wise. Or if it was a kit, or done by us.

Thanks!

Thanks Walt

The thing is like this:

Someone buys the kit, and say he's not knowledgeable in components.

These comments, can create doubts, so maybe he'd be unhappy. It's a bit of psycho-acoustic.

With the explanation, I hope it'd reduce this effect.

We are also working on custom film caps now, more mustard type. Hopefully, that'd make people happier. I guess Mallory 150 is out of fashion? Smiley

Thanks!

Mirc

Thanks.

I want it to be interactive so the discussion can be on going.

Once I have the material done up, I will put on pdf and put it on my website as well.

It wont be a one off thing, as there's a lot to cover.

So the interactive forum can perhaps fill in the gaps.

Stressed? Kinda.

If you scour the forums, you'd see why. You'd see someone starting a thread to ask, and there'd be one poster (usually with low post count) coming in and start doubts.

If someone knowledgable is there to explain the parts, then suddenly it's about patriotism.

I understand abt that, but just get straight to the point.

I respect those who just come out and straight away say something like "Buy American" or wherever local is.

At least, there's no lies involved, and no confusion. And perhaps less snake oil sales.

Thanks!

Nik
