16  Community / Classifieds / Re: Kleinulator for Sale on: August 15, 2009, 03:27:26 PM
I forgot to mention that it's the nice new one with the nice box with imprinted letters and the off white knobs. It's in perfect condition.
17  Ceriatone / Overtone / Sheilding in head cab? on: August 14, 2009, 04:58:40 AM
Hey everyone,

I'm about to build a head cab for my OTS and I was wondering if the inside of the top should have some shielding to shield the electronics. If it does, what material?
Anything else of the sort that I should know for head cab building?

Thanks,

Alex
18  Community / Classifieds / Kleinulator for Sale on: August 12, 2009, 11:17:01 PM
I was thinking of selling my Kleinulator for $110 US plus shipping. So I'm throwing up an add to see if anyone is interested. I'm located in Montreal so shipping to the US is pretty good using Canada Post and USPS.

Thanks for the help guys. It looks like I have to buy a multimeter Tongue Any tips on shopping for a cheap one? Any will do?

I'm guessing the bias is set with the knob post between the two power tubes? Maybe I could see how high it's set by "feel" if someone says something like "it should be turned half way up out of the box"?

Did you set the bias for the tubes?  If it's set too high the tubes won't last long."

No, I haven't touched that because I've never biased an amp before. Perhaps it was accidentally set too high out of the box? I don't think I would have a way of checking that since I don't have the machine thing for it... hmm...

Hey everyone,

I got my OTS about 1.5 weeks ago and love it but I've encountered a problem. When I got it, I put some Winged C 6L6GC's in it and they were nice but after playing decently loud for about 2 hours, I got this light static-like buzz on certain notes (even clean). I tried everything, different guitars, klein, no klein, effects, no effects, different cables until I finally figured out it was the power tubes. I replaced them with the JJ 6L6GC's I got from Nik and I've been playing at low volume for a week (I really liked the JJs btw). Today I got to turn it up, nothing too loud, mostly clean, some disto from pedals, and again I just got the static after about 2 hours. I think the power tubes went out again. Is there somethig wrong with my amp or am I doing something wrong that I'm blowing tubes like that?? I did put it on standby for a while before turning it on. It's kind of discouraging because I've only played it loud a few times and I've blown like 75$ worth of tubes. I'm using a Kleinulator with all knobs set around 3 o'clock and I don't have a head cab. I've tried everything (switching variables) and I've narrowed the problem down to the amp itself, not wires or the klein or anything. Obviously I can't test the power tubes because I've blown them all but its 100% the same problem as the first time the tubes went south.
Does anyone know what the problem could be? Anyone had the same issue? I've emailed Nik about this too.

Thanks,

Alex

Well before spending that money you could just take the wah out of your signal chain and perhaps the ts9 and see if it affects it. Im guessing itll be ok without those two. I took my wah out of my loop because even though it was true bypass it sucked tone, I also got the Keeley looper for my TS9. All good now Cheesy
24  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Effects pedals and effects loop on: April 01, 2009, 03:11:31 AM
"The CryBaby has a very poor bypass ..."

I also don't think the Keeley TS-9 is true bypass, mine isn't anyway (which is why I have it in a loop switch). I think it's definitely the true bypass that's the problem. Maybe cheap wires too.

I've used a loop switcher and love it. The Keeley one I have is great. The Loopmaster ones look cool though.
25  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: straight into the amp sounds different from through pedalboard. on: March 24, 2009, 05:58:17 AM
Yeah definitely try without the wah (or without each pedal one by one). I've had a true bypass wah suck some pretty decent tone before. On my old amp, I actually liked it for a while because it smoothed out my shitty tone! Smiley

"EL34's not El84's. You could never put 9pin El84's in the OTS's 8pin sockets and I said they didn't sound very different to 6L6's."

Sorry, I missed the "little" in "very little different" Tongue Thanks for the reply.

And I forgot to mention that I'm really happy to hear this from John, it made my day!:

"So, after being of no assistance at all, I will tell you that the Clean channel of the OTS takes pedals very well and you can really achieve some great tones with it.  When you drive the clean channel you get some of the flavor of the OTS mixed with that of your particular pedal."

28  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Tube Classification Thread on: February 26, 2009, 02:46:46 AM
Alright, I understand about the thread not being useful. Regarding the Gilmour tones, I only said that because the other tones I would've mention, you would have really thought were "barking up the wrong tree." I'm not really going for Gilmour tones so forget that. It wasn't the point of the thread anyway. I was just trying to help every get pointed in the right direction when looking at tubes to have a starting point. But I digress... lol

It was mentioned that an OTS with EL84's sounds very different than an OTS with 6L6's. While exchanging emails with Nik, he seemed to say that the amp could not take EL84's. Assuming it can (since you guys say it can), can you describe the difference in sound? Don't take the easy way out and tell me that it depends on your settings lol Everyone knows that but there are definitely consistent underlying differences and a reason to change or not change.

Thanks!

I just ordered a new Overtone (very excited!) and I started wondering what tube would give me a sort of Gilmourish OD but still retain the awesome clean of this amp.

That got me thinking that if you guys are willing, it might be cool to all post our experiences with different tubes and the clean and OD sound that you got out of them like so:

Manufacturer:
Tube type:
Headroom:
Clean sound:
OD sound:

You can separate power tubes and preamp tubes if you want. This might be too much work for some people but it might be cool to have all our experiences in one thread.

That first, clean clip Pickmaster posted is reeeeallly SRV style clean. Sounds a lot like Lenny.
