Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: advise on getting a SRV tone

That first, clean clip Pickmaster posted is reeeeallly SRV style clean. Sounds a lot like Lenny.
Lenny was kinda of a strange tune in SRV aresenal. One wouldn't think of this tune when you talk about his "tone". For most it's that Pride and Joy honk.

Look at Dumble pictures and Fender filament wiring. They were the smart guys. However I hope Ceriatone is gonna change there method of filament wiring. Floating from one tube to another is the way to go in building the d-style amp IMHO.
A friend is constructing his S&M OTS right now and intends to use the Fender filament wiring method. We're anxious to hear his amp against my Ayan/Lerner/Zucker beast. He also has the Fender choke to substitute in one day. Yo Pete, you reading this? The Hermida cab looks good in my living room! ;-) Jim

Only there's no way of actually buying them online. I guess they're not ready yet.
Bingo. What the world doesn't need now is more crapola like the GT 12AX7M fiasco. though admittedly I do use that tube in some of my equipment. Of course they have survived the "hammer test" from Lord Valve. Jim

Those tubes were slated for release in 2008 and then the company decided to hold back due to quality and performance reasons. I think it will be awhile till those tubes see the light of day.
funky looking tube... Jim

I have no experience with the Kleinulator, but I have been rocking my RedPlateAmps D'Lator for a bit. I'd call Henry at RedPlateAmps and ask him about building you his dumblelator. It is 12AX7 based and sounds great. You can also swap tubes for more tonal choices.

Exactly the kind of information I was hoping for. Thanks for the replies. Decisions, decisions... I play some clean country, rockabilly, jump blues, classic rock, and jazzy blues along the lines of Carlton and Ford (or at least attempt to). Cleans are somewhat important but the main interest in the OTS is for the distortion. I use varying degrees of distortion from mild to fairly intense but no metal.
I think the non-HRM does the right thing for you.

Right now, I'm on a tone quest and my thinking (be it right or wrong) tells me that if I'm going to spend the money on an OTS then I don't need the cab & speakers to be the weak link in the chain.
I agree 100%. Cab and speakers will make or break you. jim

My OTS always impresses me more with single coils and clean than with humbuckers.
I'm the other way around. My humbuckers are positively killing and my SCs not spectacular. I'm beginning to suspect my current SC pickups and will be pulling them shortly. jim

Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: 1/2 power mod on a 50watt OTS ?

Mystique, eh? To each his own, but I just like great tone which is why I use the OTS. My OD pedals, set usually a quarter or less on the gain change the tone minimally, but for the better. It still sounds like the OTS and no other amp, but maybe a bit fuller and tighter depending on the Guitar and pedal settings.
I admit I haven't spent alot of time with my OD pedals with the OTS because the OTS sounds so good by itself. If I have to, I'll bring in my pedalboard, which for the OD side of things currently contains a Zendrive, Xotic BB and RC booster. I do think your opinion is valid. Guess I want to keep the tap dancing to a minimum. I know one of the reasons I hate guitars in the monitors is because I spent $$$ on my equipment for what sounds pleasing to my ears. The monitors never sound as good as my rig and we don't typically have the time to sound check at a gig to work out EQ details. It's mixed on the fly starting at song one. Jim

Use the return of your FX loop to control the final volume. How does that work? I will also use a Kleinulator for a Holy Grail Reverb and a Fulltone Choralflange. I'm not familiar with the Kleinulator, I use another type of Dumblelator clone and it has a "return" pot that I use to essentially set the whole volume of the rig. I use it as the overall master. I got this idea from reading another forum. It isn't perfect but it does help. I'm sure the Kleinulator works the same way. Set your amp up volume wise where you need to be then start backing down the return. Then start playing around with the interaction between the tone you're achieving and the master volume on the OTS until you strike a happy medium. If I had another $500 lying around I'd plunk down for an Ultimate Attenuator. There is no club or private event that I play that I could ever let the OTS sing above 5 on the master. I think this is also where the amp just starts to really shine. For this reason alone, the OTS may not be the amp for me, but I got to tell you it does have some kewl mojo and I think its a spectacular amp for the money. I hate having alot of guitar in the monitors too fwtw. jim

Pentode/Triode switch is going to mess up your tone. Attentuator is much much better solution.
Use the return of your FX loop to control the final volume.
50 watt OTS is LOUD. You have to push some air to get those great tones. I do not think there is an inexpensive way around this.
Baffles are typically made out of clear plexiglass. That is a decent idea, more stuff to lug around though.
Using OD pedals for me with this amp kind of takes away the whole mystique.
