Ceriatone / Overtone / Effects loop gain control for OTS?
|
on: July 22, 2009, 10:28:30 PM
|
Hi - I'm not a techie at all, so bear with my ignorance, please.
I use a E-H Holy Grail reverb in the (passive) effects loop, and while it sounds fine on the clean channel, switching to overdrive makes it break up into really nasty digital distortion. Would it be possible to add a pot at the loop input to reduce the amount of signal going into the loop?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Ask Nik to send you the face plates with just the white printing, without the black backing. Then screen or spray a brown color.

Naw, I didn't do it -- I couldn't solder a copper pipe My buddy Ross, who interned at Two Rock, built the amp. I made the cabs and silkscreened the Rick Griffin rock'n'roll bug. The transformers came from Two Rock. I *think* they're what they use in their amps, but they could just as well have been some odd things Bill had lying around.

Ceriatone / Overtone / Bright switch mod?
|

I'd like to have the bright switch footswitchable as I like the sound for clean rhythm, but it's too piercy for lead playing. Has anyone done this mod? How hard would it be?
Cheers, Django

John Mayer uses Two Rock amps which are based on Dumble circuits, as is the Ceriatone OTS. I may be generalizing here, but what folks look for from this type of amp is the nice fat, warm, overdrive sound made popular by players like Larry Carlton (think old Steely Dan records) and Robben Ford. Not too crunchy, but sort of violin-like and singy, if that makes sense.
If that sound appeals to you, the OTS is a geat amp. Personally, I live there. It's not, however, a modern rock/metal tone at all.

Yeah, I was told that interference from fluorescent lights etc. might be a problem. But I like seeing the guts of the amp, so I'll deal with that if it comes up. So far it hasn't.
