16  Ceriatone / Overtone / tube recommendations on: June 21, 2009, 08:27:22 PM
Time to get new tubes.  I'd like a tad warmer tone a little smoother and deeper with a new tube set.  Any recommendations?

Also a Kleinulator (or suitable Dumbleator equivalent) makes a tremendous addition.  Frankly it makes the difference for me in no likey without and definately love it with a klein and a little reverb or delay.  Mmmmmm good!

thanks for the translation ...to my ears (and I don't own a Fuch's and only have heard them on line) the OTS is a little raspier and not quite as refined.  Personally from my quite limited perspective I like the OTS by comparison of the net stuff.  I own an OTS and love it.  I imagine it is a matter of personal likes and dislikes.  If I could afford a Fuch's I would probably have one of those too!

Can anyone translate in to English...I'd love to know what he said in comparing the Fuch's and Ceriatone

I use a Holy Grail with the Klein unit in the loop.  The sound is hard to beat...well worth the additional investment.
21  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: OTS clean channel not very loud on: December 21, 2008, 11:07:00 PM
I haven't read all of the posts in the thread so forgive me if I missed this: Are you plugging into the FET instead of normal input?

Other than that, something must be amiss.  I play through a 2x12 cab and in my house usually setting the preamp volume btwn 4 and 7 depending upon the guitar/style.  With that, the clean is quite loud and normally I don't put my master on much more than 1 to 1 1/2.

I have a Fender Concert Blackface and my OTS is louder at comparitive settings.  Have you double checked your speaker cables, connections et.?

Following the current change on the thread.  Buckers do well (to my ears) with the preamp volume around 4 to 5.  Singles do better with it around 6-7.  That's clean and dirty. I find the goods for both that way.

Thanx for the view.

Nick you got any pics on how the mod came out.  I am on the fence as to how it will look but fear worse, in time, if they aren't protected.

I have a fully built cab OTS from Nik.  My questions concern a few additions to its appearance.

1) To put metal corners on it, I assume the body (which is covered in tolex) of it is made of wood and simply drilling pilot holes and installing corners is all I'll need to to there.  Am I correct?  Will the Fender corners (readily available on the net) fit properly? Is there a size designation I should look for?

2) I'd like to put a black (semi transparent) cloth like is on my speaker cab on the front of the amp.  How involved is that?  How much of the cab will have to be dismantled to allow me to do it properly?  Are there tricks of the trade I need to know?

I appreciate your insights.  Remember, I did not build this and have not taken any of it apart.

ThanX,
Casken

EXACTLY what I was looking for.  Many thanks.

I would still appreciate an understanding of what this thing actual does and what the dials are actually regulating.

Also are there some do's and dont's associated with it?
28  Ceriatone / Overtone / Educate me about the Kleinulator on: September 19, 2008, 08:41:40 PM
knobs are send, return and recovery.

1) What do they actually do? Please keep it simple.
2) I read once of preferred settings but get a hum if I set them according to what I read here.  I think it was 3 o'clock, 5 o'clock and 2 o'clock respectively.
3) I can back them all down and eliminate the hum, is that okay to do or will it hurt anything?

Also when I back it off it seems to lose a bit of the snarl and attitude I like from the OD.

I really would appreciate some idea of how this thing works.  Thanks for the education.

Now for the "million dollar question"..

Which one you like more and why?

30  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Strat Tones with the OTS on: September 18, 2008, 06:37:54 PM
A lot will also be determined by your speaker cab and set up.  I use Kinman AVN blues pups in the mid and neck position of my strat. There are a tad more mid rangey than standard strat pups.  I have a Pearly Gates 'bucker in the bridge.

My cab is an open bacl 2x12 Avatar.  Celestion vintage 30 and G12h30.

My setting preference is similar to the original post but I prefer mids (on clean tones) pretty low it just makes the tone less abrasive.  I like smoooth.  I play at pretty low volumes most of the time (unfortunately), so my ratio is oftern pretty low when the OD is on.

The major difference is at low volumes I usually use the bass at around 4 or 5.  When louder it is too much.

Here's how it is now.  Volume 5, Switches Bright and Rock on. Treble 7, Mid 1, Bass 5.  Power amp master 2, and presence 7.  Been playing clean mostly of late.

I have a Klein (minus those godawful ugly yellow knobs Grin), an EH holy grail, and Boss delay in the loop.  Subtle settings on the effects.

Works for me.

And I do agree, the amp absolutley loves a Les Paul.  Mine sounds killer in this rig.  With it I gotta do the OD thing most of the time.

Regards
