Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: EVM12L + another speaker

If it were me, I'd go with a JBL D-120 or something like that. I think it's more important to pair the EV with a speaker of similar efficiency so neither one is more prominent than the other. The EV is so linear, and the JBL is more middy, I think they would be a nice compliment.

I bet it's those KT-88's that really give it a different character. This weekend I'm converting one of my amps from 6L6 to EL-34, and testing against a nearly identical amp with KT-66's. Hopefully in a week I'll FINALLY be able to decide how I want to build my Ceriatone!

Considering the HUGE trannies used on this chassis, I doubt it would have any problem with a properly biased KT-88.
However, that brings up another question... Is anyone running KT-66 tubes? Those are very similar to 6L6 so that should be easy. My real question is how would they sound?

Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Outbid with 2 seconds to go

Yesterday I was outbid for 2 EVM 12L OEM speakers on EvilBay.
I was looking good with 2 seconds to go as the only bidder and was pipped at the post.
They were going for $175 for the pair and my max bid was $220, they went for $222.50.
I really wanted them as they are hard to find in Australia and even if you can find one new here they want $510 each.
OUCH!!!

ALL my other amps are 6L6, so I know I'll like that. I have an awesome amp builder near me, so tweaking and rebiasing isn't a big deal. Jeff Beck plays EL-34 powered Channing amps, and you can't fault his tone! I did test out another amp built by my builder, setting it up with both 6L6 and EL34, and I really liked both equally! So my main question here was who happens to prefer 1 tube over another, relative to these amps. I'm still going to start off with EL34's... The second half of my question is still up for grabs... Naturally the speaker plays a big part of the final sound. I already have JBL D-130, Altec 417 (2x12), and will build a 1x12 EVM-12L cabinet, so all those are pretty efficient, so even a 50W amp should make any of those scream! And I likely will never play a huge venue, so why 100W? Only reason is headroom... I'd want to maintain my tone no matter what volume level I'd play, and I'm pretty sure 100W will take care of that!!!

That's exciting! Why 50w instead of 100w?
Which level "kit" did you get??
On the Mega PAB, what's the resulting effect of those two resistor settings? Anyone know what the stock value might be there?

Ceriatone / Overtone / 6L6, EL-34, or KT-66???

So, regardless which power tube a particular circuit happens to be designed for, in fact, I think any of these amps can be set up for either type of tube. However, I think most are using 6L6 power? I'm thinking of going 100W HRM design with EL-34's... Anyone have thoughts on that??
And NOW I'm considering a 50W HRM with KT-66.... LOL I wonder what I'll end up with!

Here is a clip where ODS #183 is played side by side with the Clone made by Quinn Amps
The clone is on the left hand side and played first.
Okay, that was freaking insane playing right at the very end! If the clone is first, that's really good! I didn't see your note above at first, and preferred the first one anyway. So, would one just tell Shad to make one a "#183"?

Hmmm, this seems to be a mod to the Non-HRM OTS... Would this work with the HRM version as well, or is it essentially not needed with that circuit?

No, It is one of my little secrets which I kept to myself . But for nice people on this forum I’ll publish it soon, just going out for couple of days. Best wishes Okay, did you return yet? Would love to know more about your bloom secret, before I actually get started on the building!

My recent OTS 50 build Cabinets are real lacquered tweed with vintage style leather handles - done by thecabguy.com, highly recommended! Mercury transformers, TAD 6L6GC-STR Power tubes, V1 - Tung Sol, V2 & V3 are JJ's. Celestion Gold speaker. I'm using a Strymon BlueSky reverb in unbuffered FX loop, no problem. That's all I use for FX. All together an awesome Rock/Blues/Jazz-Rock Machine. Really wonderful Tweed job! Can you tell me both cabinet dimensions?
