I always considered Ceriatone to be a amp kit company. In fact on the home page, the first sentence is:

Quote
Thank you for visiting CeriaTone, home of quality and affordable guitar tube amp board kits.

As such, the Overtone is an excellent kit, as you can build it and mod it as you please.

Those that ask for a pre-built kit, are going to have a disadvantage to those that build the kits themselves.

Try a 27k on the pot tail.

Awesome!!

Obviously you know the ins and outs of acrylic. This thing is not going to melt, is it??

Schematic re-posted as a JPEG.

After testing with various length cords, it seems the cord length may have as much effect as the resistor/cap network.
That clip is with a particular 6ft cable that sounds good in the loop.

Agree with you, but we should suggest the simplest solution for archelo  to use, who describe himself as a newb. ;-), which is why i suggest the Gill Ayan mod. However,a s always each to his own  Grin

I am definitely a newb....no shame in admitting it...

I tried looking for the details on the Gil Ayan mod in ampgarage.com but am not having much luck...a lot of posts to read through. I will keep looking...

Thanks again guys!

Here Ya go: http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5888   Cheesy it's quite easy

And don't forget the "Patch Cord" mod which does some similar things and is not permanent. Just a 6foot to 2foot patch cord across the send/return jacks sending the signal through a 250pf cap and 220k resistor in parallel.

Listening to that JM video that was posted, it reminded me a little of a clip from one of my amps:

http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6706810

This is a Fender converted over to a Dumble circuit, similar to the overtone. Differences that contribute to the tone are as follows:

100k plate on V1 with 1.5k on cathode
220k&150k and 3.3&2.2k on V2
V1 bypass caps are 500uf and 25uf (not a typo, five-hundred)
Big output transformer iron (six 6L6, 180w)
Real 'Deep' switch. (on recording I'm using Deep on the clean and OD& PAB for the drive. Amp also has a "MID BOOST" but I'm not using it on the recording)
270pf snubbers.
Except for the PI and output sections the rest of it would be similar to the "Tweaked Layout" values.

Anyway here is the schematic of the amp in my recording, in case you want to copy anything into your Overtone.

BTW this is NOT my amp from the "Special Overtone Project" thread. This amp I am discussing sounds better with a Strat than my other.

Here is another interesting composite recording comparing two amps. The first is the ODS and the second is a Sundown A-36. Again, both were recorded through the same speaker with the same guitar. In this case the guitar was a Gibson ES135.

The Sundown amp has a Marshall style tone stack after the overdrive (like an HRM).

Here is an interesting sound clip I made. It compares three amps. The first is my ODS. Next is a stock Mesa Trem-o-Verb orange channel. Third is a Fender Super Twin Reverb with a Dumble mod. All three amps were recorded and miced through the same Celestion 12" speaker. Fender Telecaster Guitar.

Here is my finished cabinet. Again, this started life as an Overtone cabinet from Nik.

Here is a final picture of my chassis. It is now just a 'distant cousin' of the Overtone, but it did start as an Overtone Kit.
28  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: FET voltage on: July 04, 2008, 05:41:32 PM
See "B" on the schematic. My FET board came from Ceriatone with a 2.7K resistor. Dumble frequently used 8.8k there.
29  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Snap, Crackle & Pop from my OTS??? on: June 21, 2008, 12:17:54 AM
The effects send jack is a 'switched' jack and when there is no plug in it, the whole signal needs to go through the two little contacts in the jack. I know the Switchcraft jacks have the mechanism right out in the open so you can try to clean it. Not sure about the ones on the overtone. When this does not make good contact it makes a loud crackling.

I just wanted to clarify that on my amp the presence makes a big difference when in OD. When in clean, there is not that much of an effect.
