16  British Style / 18 Watt / Re: Ceriatone Divided 65 on: February 24, 2012, 06:00:42 PM
It is very possible you would like some 65 amps better than your Ceriatones.....or some /13 as well. But the reverse is also possible. You might prefer some of the Ceriatones over the other makes.
As Wyatt said, it seems to us that you have already made up your mind.
Let me ask. Do You/Can You build, repair, work on amps.? There are often just a handful of resistors and capacitors layed out in a series of different configurations. What we call a "circuit". Again, as Wyatt says, if you build a Marshall 18, it will sound similar to all others.
Once you have been in enough amps, you start to realize there are A LOT of commonalities.....in circuits, component value, and design. From there, different builders will manipulate some of the finer points, move the audio slope up or down.....emphasize this, or emphasize that.....and make some of those things switchable.
But do not think that 65, /13, Two Rock, or all the others, have some "Magic Knowledge" about amps. They are smart educated guys, but they all know the same thing. They just change it up, and put their own mark on it. That includes Nik as well.

Hey Nik -
I am sorry if I misunderstand, or I am making you repeat yourself......but will you sell just the chassis and bare board with no components.?.........No parts, no wire, no trannies......just the chassis and empty board.?
Thank You

Fender Bassman Head will do just what you need. The "Bass Channel" is a miracle waiting to happen. It does not take much to change that first side into a great lead channel.
AND......they are amazingly affordable.  Smiley

Make sure the Trem is not running when you check the bias......

21  Website, Store / Ceriatone.com / Re: Ceriatone OTS stolen, Brisbane, Australia need help on: September 18, 2011, 05:49:27 PM
This guy knows nothing about amps.....put the fear of God into him.
Post on his E-Bay add. Tell him you believe that this may be your amp, that it was stolen about one month ago. Tell him there is a serial number inside the chassis, and there are serial numbers on the transformers and potentiometers. Tell him you would like him to pull the chassis....take pictures.....and you will then be able to verify, with Ceriatone, when the amp was made, and who it was made for......Say that this is a fail safe method to determine ownership.....he will not be able to sleep at night.....
Then we can all help you beat this guy with a baseball bat (or Cricket bat). Hope this goes well for you.....sorry we are so far away.....
Good Luck

Nice Amp. Andy knows his way around a chassis.
You may be out of your element here......
Have you tried this on TGP Emporium, or perhaps give a call to the guys at Sound Check......

Good deal for anybody in need.....!
24  Ceriatone / Hey What?! / Re: Not a lot of people building these?? on: July 15, 2011, 01:36:38 PM
Common practice to use the 100 ohm resistors with a PT Heater CT......been done for years.
Perhaps you guys are discussing 2 different layouts....?
504 has a single 6V winding
103 has a PT with 2x6V winding......perhaps.?

In my cat biased El84 amps, I have been using TAD. If you can afford two sets (as you have found out, you need spares for just this reason) I would try 2 different brands and see what you think. Don't trick your self into hearing something that is not there. If the difference is not obvious to your ears......don't sweat it.
Take a look at:
KCA NOS tubes
Doug's Tubes
Tube Depot
and the guys from Canada are good also.......The Tube Store

Sorry Nik....
I was just being facetious/sarcastic. I was actually talking about the (32 is it?) small gage magnet wire that is used to wind the transformers.
Just saying that nothing is too unimportant when it comes to criticizing a Ceriatone amp.
And yeah....with all the gut shots of your amps that use Orange Drops, Sozos, Mallory's, or whatever......I cannot figure out what "cheap parts" guys are talking about.
Whatever....I have not even bought one of your kits for several years. When I first started, you (Ceriatone) was a great option for me because there was not that much kit stuff available. There has been a kit boom in the last few years, so I get a lot more stuff from the USA now.
What is even MORE ironic is the fact that Weber was the company that has a history of using crappy parts.......especially cheap China/Asian made transformers. Not anywhere near the quality of iron (silicon steel actually) that you seem to get from Promitheus.
Whatever. Like you say.....nobody listens to reason
Take Care

I REALLY get tired of hearing all that crap.
I know, and believe me I do know, that any component CAN make a difference; and a few Little things can add up to be a Big thing. But the BS does get overwhelming. A lot of times, it is just the player and the day. One day you play with yellow caps in the chassis, and then you install blue caps, and it seems like the world caved in. We have good days and bad days, and in-between days, all of the time. Our memories do not work like a computer RAM either. We may think we hear a difference in what we played 5 minutes ago......
I could go on forever, but I won't. Most.......make that ALL good players sound good through any well built, well running amp. Capacitor color and lay-down vs. stand-up is just an excuse to discuss theory.
Appreciate all your efforts Nik.
BTW....I hear your transformer guys are using the wrong color of insulation, on the magnet wire, for the OT's in your Rockit builds. A mistake like that can make ALL THE DIFFERENCE in the world.

28  American Style / 5E3 Tweed Deluxe / Re: 5E3 build PT - about to blow? Or blowing as we speak?? on: June 24, 2011, 03:06:19 AM
I have had gear on outside stages, with rain coming down (not directly in the amp of course) and never had the problems you are describing. It would take more than a "damp" room to cause what you are seeing IMO.
Has that amp been working for you in the past, and is just failing now, or did you just get it, and it is having these troubles. Can you post several  good pics of your amp.? Is there actually water dripping off the ceiling and walls in this room you are in.?
 Good Luck

I have the 1986.......50 watt. I imagine you have a bit more headroom.
Enjoy.......
