16  Ceriatone / Overtone / Re: Mercury PT wiring help on: March 16, 2010, 08:40:00 PM
Dress detail---  Just trying to clean up wiring and am now running wires on pin 3,6,8 on V1 and V2 closer together as I believe I have read it has a smoothing effect on overdrive. Is this correct?  I am really going after the smooth overdrive tones as compared to the Marshall  or Vox type of overdrive. Am also waiting on different preamp tubes. I have Tungsols  12 ax7's in V1 and V2 and a Groovetube gold 12ax7 in V3. Any recomendations welcome.

Thanks

Dennis

jayster2,  I just finished it this past week.  It was a new build so I only used the Mercury Magnetics xfmr for the build. I also used the Mercury OT and choke.  It sounds pretty good but am waiting on tubes and more burn in time.  The clean channel has a nice shimmering bell like tone. Simply beautiful to my ears. The overdrive is still a little rougher at this time and I am doing a little more dress detail and tweaking. It is improving all the time. I only have a few hours on it and am waiting before I do any cap changes etc.  I can allready tell it is a keeper.  Now to build a cabinet.
Good luck with your quest jayster2.

Thanks for the link. Yes I am the same guy from AGF. These two forums are the ultimate for Dumble type amp info and the people are so helpful and invaluable to a newbie such as myself.

Thanks again Greg
19  Ceriatone / Overtone / DPDT red switch tips? on: February 18, 2010, 03:35:12 AM
Does anyone know where to find the red plastic switch tips for the DPDT toggle switches? Just looking for eye candy for my OTS in progress.

Thanks

Glad to indirectly be of help, Roger.  I live in Oklahoma and have been without power for two weeks due to ice storm. Really got behind on the amp but hope to pick it up this weekend again. I hope your buiild goes as smooth as mine has thus far.  There is  difinantly a bunch of knowledge in this forum. I have learned so much by just going back through previous posts several times.

thanks to everyone.

Nik told me today that the complete will be 250 USD and the kit 160 USD. Sounds like they are almost ready for sale.

I think I got it.  the green wires goe to filament supplying 3.15 volts each and the green/yellow to ground. Different labeling from Ceriatone through me for a sec.  Will continue on with probably more newbie questions later.

Thanks

23  Ceriatone / Overtone / Mercury PT wiring help on: January 24, 2010, 12:51:04 AM
I'm substituting A Mercury PT for the Ceriatone in my OTS build. Do I use the two green wires for the 3.15 leads? Are these wires 3.15 volts or still 6.3? Also so I ground the center tap (green/yellow wire)?
Thanks in advance.

I just wanted to say thanks to all of the great posts that inspired me to make the jump and purchase an Overtone Special kit from Nik and a special thanks to Nik at Ceriatone for such a quick and painless transaction. I ordered my kit, less transformers, from Nik and substitued Mercury transformers  ordered also through Nik. The transformers from Mercury with Nik's discount only cost me $70 dollars more with the savings and less shipping than ordering Nik's transformeres which I am sure sound great. Fantastic service. Ordered on Jan 10 and received on Jan 14. Also recieived the transformers from Mercuray on the same day. Thanks to all for past posts. I am sure I will ask really basic questions to some. I have howere built a JTM45 clone with no problems that others tell me sounds terrific. Now I just need time to begin.

Thanks
Dennis
