Hi These are the settings I use for John Mayer's song "Who Did You Think I Was" My Gear 50watt HRM & Kleinulator driving a Fender Supersonic 2x12 cab with WGS ET-65's. Fender Custom Shop Teambuilt Ash Body & Rosewood Neck Strat with Lindy Fralin Vintage Hot's and Kinman style treble bleed cap mod on the volume pot.
Amp Settings input = high volume = 8 bass boost = off mid boost = off rock / jazz = rock treble = 6 mid = 5 bass = 3.5 od drive = 3 od level = 6 od ratio = 4 master vol = 3 presence = 5.5 All pull bright knobs pushed in od channel used
Guitar settings neck pickup clean sound guitar vol = 6 to 7 lead sound guitar = 10
it pretty close but I think the HRM Bluesmaster would be better suited for gettiing his sound and I now using a T-REX Spindoctor into the front of the amp when I play this and I can get his sound easier with that.
I like the idea in the top right drawing but maybe reversed with top 2 ported and the bottom 2 sealed.
I tried out the Warehouse Guitar Speakers ET-65's in my Fender Supersonic 2x12 cab which comes with Celestion Vintage 30's.
Even though they are not broken in yet they sound fantastic with this amp, better bottom end and creamy breakup, love them much better sounding than the V30's.
I hope they work as well in the modded 4x12 cab.
BTW: Fender advertise Supersonic cabs as 13ply Baltic Birch Plywood construction, well not really. The front baffle is, but the rest is particle board. Buyers beware of false statements.
And the winner was - WGS 4 x ET65's Even with the high shipping costs, it was still cheaper than enything else.
I'm going to mod the cab interior with a dividing baffle so it will end up as double 2 x 12 and run another head into the other side as soon as I can decide which other head to buy of Nik.
Nice score On the cab......I would save the speakers.Who knows what the next trend will be with guitar players . It really depends on how much your budget is,and what your taste is in speakers.
One option would be to get some Warehouse guitar G-12-65 clone's. They are cheap and sound great with the HRM.
Another would be to invest the money and buy 4 EvM-12's,pricey so be on the lookout for a bargain with them. You will have one heavy ass 4x12 too
The Ev's have killer cleans while the Warehouse speakers are great with OD. I have 1 of each in a 2x12 and it covers a lot of basis. That could be an option too, mixing speakers. Some say that it sounds weird and others love it.
Try a bunch of different speakers although because your HRM will sound different than the next guys. Listen to as many clips as possible and ask questions before you make a decision based on your taste .
I have also heard good things about any NEO magnet speaker, they are super light and can roll with the big cats as far as cone breakup, efficiency ,and other speaker traits. Good Luck!
Boldaslove Thanks for the reply and the heads up on the Warehouse Guitar G-12-65 clones, good price. I'm going to ping them off an email to find out the shipping costs
I scored a early 80's Marshall 4x12 cab yesterday for $50, it needs a lot of work but the guy gave me new black tolex & salt 'n pepper grill cloth in the deal.
The cab has been sanded back and I need to make a new front baffle board (the old one is cracked beyond repair) and need to get 4 new casters and some gold piping but the rest of the hardwear is there and in good knick.
It is loaded with 2 x G12M-70's and 2 x G12T-75's which are all in serious need of reconing and I don't think I would bother and prefer to replace them with something better.
Any suggestions on speakers that would match a HRM would be greatly appreciated.
Hi I just bought a Boss FRV-1 '63 Fender Reverb pedal and run it in the loop with a Klein. Pretty happy with it and it wasn't expensive and sounds very natural. Cheers
I have only played through a HRM which I received nearly 2 weeks ago and I play low output Strats, so I only have 1 perspective on these amps so it's best to get the views of other more experienced users here as well as talk to Nik.
Having said that, you definatley wouldn't be disappointed with the HRM's cleans in fact they're awesome, definately a Fender Twin like sounds and really ballsy even at bedroom levels. The loudest I have had it so far is 3 on the master volume but at rehearsal levels it's just over 1 and our rehearsal room is huge, it's 200 sq metres.
The lead sound is very versatile, it can go from slight breakup to somewhere around Mesa gain territory and everywhere in between, but with it's own distinctive sound with a lot of really nice harmonic texture and it's matches the clean sound perfectly.
