I really like all of his sounds, but my "first-Robben" was "Handful of Blues". But the sound in my mind with the OTS are especially the "New Morning" live stuff. Seems a lot brighter than earlier sounds of him.
Here´s a example of how my rig sounds with the Vintage30´s right now, without C-lator. Only pedals are Hermida Reverb and Wapler echo. MIND this is recorded in a small concerthall, not so good for drums etc as you know!
That's a nice sound. If you're happy with it, you probably don't want to change a thing. If you want exactly the same circuit as RF used the last 2 cd's, follow the mods I wrote a few posts earlier, use a dumblelator/clator and g12-65 speakers.

@Emiel: Off course, comparing would be nice. Meeting in November? @Claws: I can describe what each component does, but that's probably not your question? The overall sound is brighter and has a more focused upper midrange. The amp does sound too bright when there is no c-lator, believe me it is a real nightmare. Like a boss Metal charger in its worst setting Together with the C-lator it's magic. I prefer a C-lator; it has a much better feel. If you have Celestion vintage 30 I doubt this mod will work. (too bright; I recently did this mod by someone's OTS with v30)

You need a c-lator.
You also have to mod your amp.
Dropping string of the power supply: 1st resistor: 2k7
Resistor after v2b coupling cap: 150k Snubbers: both 250pF(although 270pF will also be fine) The cap that's on the mid switch: 390pF (silver mica) Bright cap on the master is 68pF(silver mica) Presence cap is 2,2uF
Mind this: This configuration is unusable without a c-lator/dumblelator.
Personally I also find it useful to make the NFB resistor 10K instead of 4,7k. This way I don't have to crank the presence control. My amp responds better to it.

There isn't any magic; the out knob on the c-lator is the master volume for your amp from a technical point of view. Together with the smoothing this unit does, you can have, at moderate sound levels, a well balanced tone.

Steven, last year I made some measurements at home, gigging places etc.
The voltages in Holland vary from 223 to 238v (if the central power net is used). Especially gigging places have big power consumption and result in a lower voltage. In the powertransformer of the amp the voltages are upped to 1,4 times the original voltage. Due to this fluctuation in the net , the plates are 15v-20v lower than they supposed to be. Lower plate voltages sound darker, give more compression and break up earlier. It's really no voodoo, your actually can hear this...

Steven did you already try to hardwire bypass your rack fx? I'm curious if there's a lot of highs getting lost around the Rocktron/Dynacord cabling.

If you like HRM pots on the frontpanel you better go for a Two Rock amnivirsary or a certain type of Glaswerks amp. These brands did extensive research to take the HRM concept a step further without ending in a humming amp. FWIW I like my HRM od channel only with the PAB on. So I tweaked it at gig levels as a extension of the clean channel sound wise. Now it's untouched for almost 3 months(set and forget). Erwin, what exact setting of the trim pots, did you settle on? Hi Claus, I forgot, but if you're really interested I can open up my amp again, set and forget applies here...

On the 250k vs 100k pot; It's a voltage divider, but the difference makes the circuit to have a increased load on the plate with a 100k pot. With 250k you have beside the pot behaviour more volume due to the decreased load. I'll bet it feels and plays different.
Does that mean more volume (and thus more gain) with a 250K pot? I changed the pot fairly early on before the amp was properly burnt in, so it'll be difficult to compare. Yes I think so...

Erwin, that sounds like that your OTS is painfully bright without the Dumblelator! Does your amp sound much different than that day I tried it? It was already a monstrous sounding amp back then... also what's that nice Les Paul in your pic? Looks like a real old one, is it?
Emiel you're right; My ots sounds painfully bright without a dumblelator. It's a little different; I changed my presence circuit a little further to match it with g12-65 speakers. Also my dumblelator has some tinkering in the low end. The les paul in the pic; it's owned by the the guy that had the Van Weelden. It isn't a real one and it's artificially aged
