PAB is useless as it completely sucks your tone.

Solution is simple. Wind up the ODS to clean solo volume ( v=7 m=5/7 ), and use your guitar's volume control. I always set up my gear with my guitar on "7" to give me more than I need. It will also gets over the problem of the bridge p/u ( Strat/Tele ) being too quiet. So maybe 7 = rhythm 8= neck solo 9 =  bridge solo 10 = loud solo etc ......    If you have a bleed cap on the guitar volume pot remove it as it will change your tone. If you loose your top end on "7" then buy a better guitar lead, maybe Elixir.
Same thing for o/d tones except your guitars volume control also becomes a drive control.   7 = crunchy rhythm 8 = cleanish solo   9 =  o/d solo 10 = very o/d solo.
One knob can do so much and it's 1" from your right hand !

Although my Nova Reverb is superb in the ODS loop I picked up this excellent, no hasle, Holy Grail nano, so thought I would test it in the loop.
While I had my test gear & scope set up I also tested a few other pedals:-

Measured across a 4 Ohm dummy load.
An interesting finding was that contrary to popular belief my ODS pumps out 50 Watts of clean signal before it clips     Not 43 as I have often read 

So the Holy Grail Nano will start to compromise the clean signal at 30 Watts.
Mad Professor delay clips at only 13 Watts.
Both Nova Reverb and Delay are transparent in the loop. ( provided they have been calibrated ).

Could use the nano in-line but don't like the wash of reverb when the o/d is engaged.
Back to the Nova then. Wish it had less knobs 

I'll use the HG for my Dizzy 30 and Egnater. It's an excellent simulation of an old spring reverb.

So when you had ALL controls off, and turned the middle control up, it did make an audible difference ?  My mid only works if the Bass is up.

I installed a Red Snapper on the FET board. Used the three switch holes for the controls , Vol, bite and Gain.  Installed push-pull treble & middle pots for "bright" & "deep", not that I use them.    Wired the snapper to the PAB relay so I can operate it from the footswitch. 

I installed all of Dr Ika's mods but I have slowly gone back to stock as it was a bit too big & dark for me, great for the Dr. I do have 470pf scrubbers as per Two Rock Custom reverb. And a 0.01 in place of 0.005 at the exit of the o/d.  Also 100k instead of 180k feeding the o/d level. That's about it.

Love it.  Sold both my Two rocks.

I removed PAB, FET & Rock switch some months back as I have no use for them.
( installed a clean o/d in the amp in their place ).
My question is , whilst fiddling last night I noticed my mid control has no effect when the treble & bass are off !!!

Could someone do this simple test and report back.

Turn ALL EQ to zero ( and switches off ).
Turn treble 0 > 10    highs come tho'    YES 
Return to 0,0,0

Turn Bass 0 > 10      bottom end comes thro'   YES 
Return to 0,0,0

Turn Middle 0 > 10     No effect !!!!!       

I am sure this is OK as the controls interact enormously but it would be nice to know I have rebuild the EQ correctly after my canabalisation

I initially ripped out parts and wiring associated with PAB, Rock/Jazz , and FET.
Don't need them, don't want them .....

I then installed the Boost and 100K slope resistor, and bright mod.
I gigged with this last weekend and it was a total pleasure. All my concerns about clean solos tone have gone. And the "o/d" plus "new boost" is totally awesome.
If I stopped now I would be 100% happy.

Lucky enough to live just down the round to Dr Ika so had a day test driving his OTS and comparing with my initial mods, very similar 

This weekend I am doing the following, which will mostly be switchable.
high/med/low drive toggle. Don't think I need this as "o/d" plus "boost" is fine.
27k , 0.01uf and 250K level.
Feedback mod on V1 0.05 / v470uF switch.  ( bluesmaster mod )
Snubber mods, all switchable.
50uf caps across the existing 100uF.

Will make the amp very flexible, but as I say I was in tone heaven last weekend at the gigs with only the first few mods, and the MV was only at 3 !

I owe Dr Ika a HUGE drink

Not really thought of it. They sit nicely on top of the head cab. I use both last week. However there should be no problem with noise with the huge signal level on the FX loop.

I'll try two guitar leads and let you know....

After the success of using a TC Nova reverb with the OTS without a Klein-u-lator I thought I would try the Nova delay. It has exactly the same max input level of +16dBu which is calibrated in a similar way to the Reverb. here is a quick video.



I'll gig with it tomorrow to see how it performs at gig volume.

Totally agree. See the other thread on clean volume.
I refuse to use pedals with an OTS so need clean solo volume as norm, which means I get up to v=7 m=5+ with the band at well attended gig ( and NO i'm not too loud    ). No problems with o/d but mostly play clean with a Tele.
My Two rock is better balanced between clean & o/d. Still it's can be accomodated within the travel of the four gain/volume pots just takes a bit of experimenting at gigs.

I've had second thoughts about the OTS clean channel. 
I have been running with the Klein-ulator in the loop but since getting a TC nova reverb I no longer need it. ( TC takes 16dB input ! ).
I have been using my Dizzy 30 which has loads of gain.
On Tuesday I used the OTS with no Klein-ulator and had to have V=7 M=7 to be heard above the band, and we are not that loud.
o/d is another story but I am talking Matt Schofield/Albert Colin's cleans.

So I checked my Klein-ulator which is set at Send=max Return=Max Recovery=2 o'clock. I injected a signal of 220mV into the input and measured the output. It was 1.2V !! So I have been working with a X5 gain in the loop 

I will probably utilise my Red Snapper for clean solos in future as I am the lead vocalist and it is convenient to have a clean solo boost pedal when 80% of my brain is devoted to vocals.   Obviously the PAB is no good for clean boost as it drastically changes the tone.

o/d is exactly the opposite with huge gain available. I usually use lg=3 lm = 4
But I generally only use o/d in the last 12 bars of a solo.

Agree with all these comments. I run v=12 m=12 with a loud band with no problem.
I have a 1 x12 cab with EV 12L ( 100db ). Ok compaired to say Dizzy 30 which I run at v=3  m=12 it is less gainy but should easily keep up with the band. Something is wrong under the bonnet
