If you could only run your Plexi 50 through one speaker what would it be? I'm just thinking about a 2x12 stereo cab with my OTS driving the EV and the Plexi driving something else.

I have an Eminence Tonespotter in with my EV at the moment and I don't think, though I don't recall, that that is high enough wattage. I've also got a Emi Texas Heat which is 100w I think, not sure it would be the right speaker for a plexi though.

What I'm asking  really is what will give the same tone as a good old greenback but with 75-100watt capability.

Thanks for the links. I was able to find the specs on my Texas Heat and thats 150watt so I think I'll give that a go to begin with and then take it from there,

Also have a look at Warehouse Guitar Speakers. I bought 4 ET65's off them which are a clone of Celestion G1265's.

So far I have only used 2 of them in my 2x12 Fender Supersonic cab and they sound far better than the Celestion Vintage 30's that were in it.

I have nearly finished restoring my 4x12 cab which they will end up in, but I too am looking for either a Plexi 50 or 2550 kit from Nik and running it with my HRM

WGS do clones of just about everything British and American. I paid US$65 each and even with shipping to Australia it was cheaper than getting the 4 Celestion speakers that came with the 4x12 reconed.

My wife owned a backline company. The Governor/Wizard was our default speaker combo in a 2x12 or 4x12. And I would agree with you about single speaker use as well. No single speaker is always the right choice, but I would take the Governor over the Wizard in most 1x12 requirements.

The lead guitar player in my band uses a Mesa 1x12 wedge cabinet at most of the gigs we do in small places indoors.  It originally came with a Celestion speaker that was about a 70 watter and never sounded very good.  He put up with it because of the convenience of having a small cabinet at the front of him pointing right at him instead of the audience and sound man. 

One day the Celestion finally gave up the ghost and blew so we replaced it with an Electro Harmonix(made by Eminence) 60 watt ceramic magnet speaker and it's tremendously better tonewise with a much smoother mid and top end and a tighter less clunky bottom.  Mic-ing it with a E609 Silver sounds spectacular with little to no EQ though the PA. 

I'm a believer in using a light weight speaker that the amp can really drive when it comes to electric guitar tones especially when working with dynamic mics and he's been hitting this speaker for the last few years with ahard running  Sovtek MIG60 with EH 6CA7's) and a few pedals.  This speaker was inexpensive from New Sensor and I bought a few spares should it get tired.
