Title: Putting a Half Power Switch/London Power Scaling into 1959 Super Lead
Post by: cheiney on January 14, 2013, 06:55:51 PM
Hello everyone!

I am considering purchasing a super lead kit from Ceriatone in the near future and was wondering if any of you guys have tried adding mods to the kit such as a London Power Scaling kit or some mechanism that allows you to turn off 2 of the EL34s and run the amp at 50W.

I currently have a 15W AC15 that is pretty good for a practice amp, but I want to have a half stack for gigs where I can really get the volume louder. I wouldn't mind having power scaling in it so I can use it at home as well. During my band's rehearsal the AC15 can not keep up with my bassist's 200W amp and my heavy hitting drummer. It can get a pretty good overdrive sound with a treble booster, but it can't clean up without a dramatic decrease in volume. I've heard of the Lar/Mar PPIMV but I would rather have a powerscaling kit as it is said to keep a lot of the tone qualities of the amp at lower volume than MV can.

Thanks for reading this and hopefully some of you guys can answer my questions! I have never built an amp head before, but you have to start somewhere right? And the marshall plexi is my current dream amp.
