Title: Help with kit vs. parts question
Post by: Hassouni on June 08, 2008, 11:35:27 PM
Hi everyone, I'm seriously considering getting one of the Marshall 50 or 100w clones, and there's some confusion.  Let me just paste my email to Nik:

On the 1987 Plexi, for example, Package 2 is $530, with assembled
board, front plate, rear plate, chassis, choke, OT, PT.  But when I go
to the parts, the assembled board, chassis, front and rear plates, and
transformers + choke come up to $360.  Why the discrepancy?  Does the
kit require less assembly?

Nik responded that the $360 "doesnt include pots knobs selectors, can caps, iec
socket, jacks, etc etc etc."

Does all that stuff add up to $170?  What else is required for one of the amps?

Thanks!

I'll bet it does. They may only seem like small parts, but just think about the cost of new knobs/scratchplates etc for a strat - I easily got to £100 when I changed the look of my strat and there are more parts to make up an amp...
