Title: AFD #35 - Drop Gain on GN2 by 50%?
Post by: Brett336 on December 23, 2013, 10:04:22 PM
Hello to all - first time post here.

I have a Ceriatone built AFD #35 50 watt head and I love a lot of what it does. I particularly like the plexi channel (GN1) and usually play it maxed out. It is a great platform for OD peddles as well.

The AFD side, quite honestly is way too hot for me. It's fun and all and I can get some good tones out of it between the interaction of GN1 and GN2. But when I find my sweet spot, the plexi channel is not very useful because of the extreme volume drop and lack of drive. I can get most of the heavy high gain stuff with a good OD peddle in front of the plexi side anyway.

What would be really ideal is if the AFD side had about 50% less gain so GN2 had a more useful range. I feel that it would be more versatile for me to use the GN2 channel as a kind of solo boost/drive with GN1 set on 10.

Maybe it's not possible with this design, but I would appreciate any advice from you "modders" out there. I was hoping that it would be as simple as changing out a resister or two. I popped a pair of 12AU7 preamp tubes in V2 and V3 and that kind of helped, but I am not sure I like the gain character of a 12AU7 tube.

Thanks in advance for any advice given!

Brett
