Title: What the #@!%&*%#????
Post by: dannysgrandpa on August 16, 2008, 06:00:54 AM
Hey all, I finished my OTS tonight and put the tubes in, hooked up a speaker and turned on the mains and all the tubes glowed. ;D Waited a couple of minutes and, with all the controls set at zero, I flipped the standby to "on". Instantly, a very loud and high pitched squeal came from the speaker. I immediately turned to standby and changed the impedance switch and tried again. This time the sound was low and also very loud. turned the thing off and came here. Help!!!!! :'(

This happened to most of us...

Change the two wires from OT to the two tubes.
That should do the trick.

Yep, got rid of the squeal, thanks. Now I've got a bigger problem. I plugged in my 335 and no sound!!!!!! Nothing, zip, zilch, nada!! I checked the input jacks for signal, got it. Checked the pins on the tubes and could hear the little tick through the speaker when I touched each pin tab. I even went so far as to plug my guitar into the return jack of the effects loop and could play through the power section which, by the way, was quiet and absolutely noise free. So...now what?? Any ideas? Thanks in advance,  Bill

Have you tried new preamp tubes?

are you sure the footcontroler switches on the back of the amp are set properly?

Check the wires on the input.
The drawing is a little confusing to look at, you see the input at a certain view that a
mistake is easy to make.

Check if the tip of the jack is connected to the input of V1 and you didn't make a ground
mistake that leads the signal direct to ground.

Also the chassis inputs have connections on each side, but only one side will be active
when you plug-in. So check that you've wired the correct side.

Relays plugged in correctly? Wired correctly? Should be some little mistake somewhere. Good to know the power section is fine, that narrows it down a lot.
