Title: what are the Best 6l6 tubes and andy ideas on pre amp tubes? Post by: mattstratocaster on November 02, 2009, 03:36:52 AM hey guys im completing my 100 watt OTS and wondering what is the best tubes for this amp. These are what i am considering: TAD 6L6WGC short bottle, TAD 6L6GC tall bottle, Groove Tubes GT 6L6GE US made General Electric short bottle clone, and Russian new production Tung Sol 6L6GC. I have jj when i got the kit which i will use, but i plan to switch them out pretty quickly. For the preamp i am looking to get some NOS 12ax7 tubes. Has anyone used NOS in their preamps? Im especially interested in V2 preamp tube since this is the position that is overdriven for the overdrive channel. Any experience on the tones of different 12ax7 makes in that position? also different origins such as NOS, Russian, Chinese? What do you guys think?
Title: Re: what are the Best 6l6 tubes and andy ideas on pre amp tubes? Post by: Steven_nl on November 02, 2009, 08:21:45 AM I use Sovtke 5881's ( so does Larry Carlton). Some people think the Winged C's are very good, but I didn't like them much. I think it's all a matter of taste.
There is a lot of information on tbues o this forum. I think Tung Sol is good and I think most people recommend LPS tubes in the PI. I have had terrible rattling after a week in one of my combo amps and then mirophonics devloped due to the excessive rattling. Also they call them 5881 but they are really 6L6GC's. All of thier tubes seem very misleading in how they are labled.
