Title: Well, it looks like my timing was off.... Post by: Kevster on May 27, 2011, 01:41:11 AM Nik posted a notice that he's suspending the selling of kits effective 6/15/2011. I can't order mine by then, so I guess I will only be able to get a complete amp....
Here's the notice: http://www.ceriatone.com/tlbrBorderSub/Kits%20Announcement%202011.htm Bummed. Title: Re: Well, it looks like my timing was off.... Post by: SoundPerf on May 27, 2011, 02:06:18 AM This is somewhat of a bummer for sure. Actually, I'm not quite sure I understand everything exactly. But, I''m sort of thrown, by the "shitty parts" statement. I know there are a few...um, basically competitors that like to bash Ceriatone, but I would think the large majority of us customers have had nothing but praise for Nik and his stuff. I kind of feel, like I'm being blamed along with the other a-holes.
Oh, well I guess the saying, "you don't know what you got until it's gone", might be appropiate for some. For myself the appropriate phrase, is "nothing good seems to last"... :( Title: Re: Well, it looks like my timing was off.... Post by: sduck on May 27, 2011, 02:34:31 AM At least he says "temporarily". Maybe they'll be back.
Me, trying to decide if I want to spring for a kit in the next 2 weeks... Title: Re: Well, it looks like my timing was off.... Post by: Kevster on May 27, 2011, 02:43:48 AM I'm doing the math to see if I can swing it ahead of the cutoff.
All right everybody. I need to know if I should go for the OTS FM 50 ME, HRM BM50, or the BRM 50... Please respond to my other thread because I've only got two weeks!!!!! Title: Re: Well, it looks like my timing was off.... Post by: hywelg on May 27, 2011, 08:09:56 AM That is seriously bad news.
Title: Re: Well, it looks like my timing was off.... Post by: mcinku on May 27, 2011, 10:11:16 AM OK who's going to South East Asia this summer for vacation?
Please bring some sort of a persuading tool along... >:( ...man it took me some years to complete my amp building/fixing bench. I'm finally done now... I have everything at my disposal and now this happens. :'( One suggestion perhaps... just thinking at loud here... I'm sure it takes a loot of time, to do the support for DIY kit builders, especially for 1st time builders... perhaps if he would stop doing this. Obviously he would need to put out some notice... "support with kits not included anymore". People which don't know what it takes to build an amp, should not do this anyhow. ...and after all, we have this forum now... we can help each other out... don't we. And for those who still can't fix it... I'm sure there is an amptech somewhere who needs to make a living as well. ;) Title: Re: Well, it looks like my timing was off.... Post by: Nairbr on May 27, 2011, 12:46:10 PM Well this goes with the week I've just had.
I had tickets to see Joe Bonamassa for the 1st time, server blew up at work so I had to stay back and fix it and I couldn't go. Then the TV show I work on has been axed after 6 years and massive staff cut backs announced. Now this! Title: Re: Well, it looks like my timing was off.... As you can see I will have a pretty shitty 6 weeks Guess I will practice my legato ;) BTW thanks alot Blues, guess those karma smite buttons work ;D Guess I deserved it :'( Todd Title: Re: Well, it looks like my timing was off.... Post by: Kevster on May 27, 2011, 01:39:02 PM Definitely a bummer on the broken hand, T!!!
Still looking at pushing up my purchase. The bright-ish side to this is that he will still sell Package 1. If he does that, the rest of it just goes domestic (USA). It's a shift of responsibility. It's not the end of the world, but it will make it more challenging to build an amp. Title: Re: Well, it looks like my timing was off.... Post by: T Wilcox on May 27, 2011, 01:45:02 PM Thats true Kevster
You will learn more as well, but I still do not see anything good to come from this! BTW they have already started Nik bashing over at TAG, maybe a few here should chime in with a little support for the man that has made amp building affordable for us people that cant spend >$2500 for an amp! Bummer about the hand. At least I can take my gear to work and practice in the studios and still get paid for it whilst I wait for a redundency package ;D Title: Re: Well, it looks like my timing was off.... Post by: Kevster on June 23, 2011, 08:46:15 PM Well, I didn't make the deadline with my order. The money I was expecting didn't arrive in time. It is "enroute" so I will be checking with Nik about my options. Hopefully he'll let me do the OTS FM ME Package 1/C-Lator assembled board sans the trannies, tube, and cab like I'd already covered in an email a couple of weeks ago.
I'm thinking about options that might be good in this amp. I'll have the C-Lator, but I wondered about connecting a stand-alone tube reverb unit to it down the road and thought it might be a good idea to plan ahead for making this thing versatile ahead of time. Also, I was wondering if there were any OD options/mods that might be a good idea with this amp. I don't want to change what the amp inherently is, but just to make it more versatile for adding that later on. Anybody got any comments suggestions? Down the road I plan to build a hybrid amp. I love the sound of the ODS, but I also like some of the rectifier OD sounds and specifically the Mesa sound. Not on everything, but as an option. I was thinking about an ODS Clean + Overdrive, and a Mesa-sounding tube rectifer OD as a "3rd" channel. Anything I don't get in this amp, will be included in that one. Possibly a switchable Serial/Parallel effects loop, built-in three tube reverb ala Dumble, etc... That amp is a couple of years away though. |
