Hi all. Just did the ME mod on my FM 50. Sounds great. But, the volume pot has virtually no taper. It seems to go to full volume at about 3.  Any ideas on what might be causing this.?

Well, it looks like changing the cap on the master vol pot makes it act differently depending on the value. I put the original 68 back in the taper was smoother. Installed a 33 and it seem like the vol rolls on faster. Am I imagining this, or what?  I am a newbie in amp mods so please bare with me.

It's a perception thing. The sound will be brighter or darker depending on what size cap you have on the pot. If the sound is brighter your ears will hear this as being louder, which is why the bright caps are there in the first place, to help the amp sound the same at low volumes as it does when it is singing at full volume, at least as your ears perceive it.

Thanks Gregg,

What happens if I remove the cap like on the standard OTS?

Then you will have no extra brightness or at lower volumes. It works just like a treble retention circuit on a guitar. It allows more treble to bypass ground so you hear more high frequencies at lower volumes.
