Hello all
Just received my OTS FM50 Modern Eagle. Thanks to all the previous posts on building this amp I was able to get most of the hardware installed in just a couple hours.
Once off work I plan on getting the rest of the grounds installed and then maybe start on heater wiring ( Oh Boy ).
One thing I will mention being this is my first amp build is the pics on this forum and on ceriatone website make everything look bigger than in reality, but still more space than some DIY effects pedals I've built so it shouldnt be a problem.
Thanks again to all posting on this forum. Without you I would still staring at my parts with a dumb look on my face.

Based on what I've learned since I made mine, I'd consider waiting on the heater wire and installing it after doing everything else, up in the air over all the other wires. That seems to be the way most dumbles were wired, and is how Nik is doing it currently. You CAN do it the way I did it (see my build thread http://ceriatoneforum.com/index.php?topic=1952.0), but it's a pain to do it neatly.

And I see you've made the same mistake I did - you'll probably want to remove half of the front and back hardware in order to install the tube sockets and ground wire connections and fuse. It would have been a lot easier if i had held off on the front and back stuff... but it's so tempting to see what the knobs are going to look like!

Tip: when twisting the heater wires in a drill chuck before you release run a hot air gun over the wire to warm up the insulation. When it cools it won't unwind.

Dang, I went back and forth on this, but decided to stick to the way Ceriatone (Nik) is/was indicating. (based on the build photos on the site)

I suppose it's not the end of world to change them. I'm just now finishing up the first stage of the build. I haven't installed the boards yet. Actually I'm just finishing up their assembly. I ordered the boards unassembled.

I'm not actually any kind of authority on this, but since I built mine I joined up in the ampgarage forum and have seen lots of pictures of dumbles and dumble clones with the heater wires up in the air. I've also seen some newer builds from Nik where he's done this - I know he has lots of pictures of heater wires down on the bottom also.

I'm not sure, but I'd guess that installing these wires last, up in the air might be a bit easier. Soundwise I'm not sure it really makes much difference - as long as you keep some distance between the heater wires and the various signal wires to keep noise down. What I can tell you is that my amp sounds absolutely fabulous, and is quieter than any other amp I've ever owned, so low heater wires can work well.

Yeah, I lurk over at ampgarage, and yes most all the clones there are on top. I just figured there must be a reason why Nik liked placing them the way they were. I sent an email to him asking about this and waiting for a reply.

P.S. know any where I can get one eyelet? I just finished soldering up the main board and there was one eyelet missing for the 47pf/470k in parallel connection. Huh?

Attached are 2 pics of the heaters I wired yesterday. Sorry iphones dont have flash so they are a little dark
Didnt have too much trouble with the knobs already mounted but I did remove the input jacks to wire them up outside of chassis.
Also Hywelg I read one of your previous posts on twisting the heater wires and then heating them. Very useful, I could have probably wound my wires even tighter although.
Anyways ran the heaters above dont know if they are high enough to be up to D*mbL3 standards.

Sometimes you gotta just close your eyes and throw a dart. That's actually how I ended up ordering the FM50 rather than the other models. I think from the clips all the models sound great and dont think it will matter in the end.

hmm, either I'm crazy or those are new photos for the FM50. I'm almost positive I went through all the photos of the different models and don't remember seeing those photos. I suppose I could've missed it.  Embarrassed

Your photos are pretty small, but from what I can tell the heater wires look pretty good.

Yeah the iphone does no justice to the pics.
I will try my wifes camera maybe it will work better
Also your not crazy I think they changed pics recently, hope the new ones are accurate. Will know soon enough Shocked
