Title: Tech in NJ? Post by: Sean on March 23, 2012, 09:36:45 PM I have a 100w HRM BM that Nik built. I feel the noise floor is a bit high and would like someone to take a look at it (there's a bunch of hum going on with nothing plugged in). Before I bring it to my regular guy, is there anyone in Northern NJ that has experience with Ceriatone D style circuits?
I figured I would ask here before I look anywhere else. Thanks! Title: Re: Tech in NJ? Post by: SoundPerf on March 24, 2012, 04:53:35 AM I figure I would throw this out there in case no one answers. I'm about an 1 1/2 hours west of Philly, PA. (York, PA)
Not exactly close, but not so far either. Title: Re: Tech in NJ? Post by: Sean on March 24, 2012, 12:15:50 PM I went to York College (man, those were some good years!)
You're about 3 hrs from me. Let me see if anyone else is closer- or a road trip is in order. Title: Re: Tech in NJ? Post by: Sean on March 24, 2012, 10:11:54 PM York's as good a place as anywhere else.
I used to gig at Murph's and the Depot and frequent Campbell's Music (if any of these places still exist- this was damn near 20 years ago). I have really fond memories of that period of my life. York's OK with me ;) Title: Re: Tech in NJ? Post by: SoundPerf on March 24, 2012, 10:23:37 PM Oh yeah, Campbell's is still here. Robert (the son) and I have been friends since 8th grade. Bought my first guitar there.
I'm not sure about Murph's. I think it may have closed in last few years. Or atleast it's not the party place it was. ;) Was the Depot running when you were here? That's still going pretty strong. I believe anyway. Yeah, York's OK. Could be worse, I'm sure. It's grown like crazy since I was a kid (47 now) but even in the last 20 years you would probably not recognize some things. The college has added a bunch more buildings in the last 10 years or so. Any band names I would remember? I wasn't a big 'bar scene' guy, but tried to keep up on the local scene back then. Title: Re: Tech in NJ? Post by: Sean on March 25, 2012, 05:07:55 PM Nothing you would probably remember, just a bunch of bands of drunken college kids that played at Murphs and the Depot.
I did know the guys in Alaska, who were a great band. Jeff G taught guitar at Campbell's and I still hear from Eric S (keys). I learned alot sitting in with the various tues/wed/thurs night things Eric put together and Jeff was a monster player who you could learn a lot from just watching. I came out with a degree in psych, but really just played guitar all the time. I heard YCP entrance standards have been raised as well as academic rigor, which is probably for the best. I got there in 1989, and it was a Rolling Stone top party school in 1988. There were things that happened that I would not believe if I hadn't seen them myself. I did have a great time and came out relatively unscathed. Title: Re: Tech in NJ? I think those late eighties YCP times were when the school was getting a good bit of news coverage for certain crazed happenings. (kids falling off balconies, etc.) I might be wrong about the exact time period. Hey, what's a college experience without crazed debauchery. :o http://youtu.be/pX71mALOPKs (http://youtu.be/pX71mALOPKs) Title: Re: Tech in NJ? Title: Re: Tech in NJ? Post by: Sean on March 26, 2012, 04:53:45 PM I'll keep all you PA guys in mind- thanks for the replies.
