Title: Strat Tones with the OTS Post by: Dumbleseeker on September 15, 2008, 08:53:28 PM I would like to hear from everyone playing a Strat with the OTS. I get instant killer tones from my Les pauls but am still searching for the Strat Tones. I would like an open discussion on suggested settings, mods and tweaks. This has been touched on within the forum but I would like to have altogether for everyone to read. Your input would be greatly appreciated for anyone playing a Strat. :) Here is what I have done so far. Changed to Tung Sol 12AX7-V1 Jan-Phillips 5751-V2 EH AU7-V3 turned the OD trimmer down to 9 no cap on Master Strat Settings: Rock switch on -Jazz/Bright off Preamp volume-6.5 Treble-6.6 Mid-4 bass-4 Overdrive Level-4 Ratio-6.5 Power Amp volume-3 Presence-6.5 Title: Re: Strat Tones with the OTS Post by: bluesfendermanblues on September 15, 2008, 09:08:03 PM What speakers and speakercabs are you using?

Title: Re: Strat Tones with the OTS Post by: dannysgrandpa on September 16, 2008, 05:02:29 AM I have been playing with both, Strat and 335 and find that when I switch to the strat all I need to do is kick in the mid boost. Although I'm using an A/B switch with a level control that allows me to boost the strat to the same input level as the 335. The mid boost just fattens things up a bit. I'm using a home built 1x12 closed back, front ported D-style cab with a NOS Jensen C12K from a Fender twin. Very fat, deep and smooth on clean...big and ballsy on overdrive.
Settings from left to right are: (Preamp) Vol 5.5, Bright-off, Mid-off(except when using strat), rock, (Tone) Treb 5, Mid 3.5, Bass 4, (Overdrive) Level 4.5, Ratio 4, (Power amp) Master 4, Presence 5.5. Give these a shot, see what you think...Bill Title: Re: Strat Tones with the OTS Post by: erwin_ve on September 16, 2008, 07:06:19 AM You should really check this topic from ic-racer; it's detailled, with soundclips.

It keeps the tone relatively clean but "FAT". :)

I use Kinman AVN blues pups in the mid and neck position of my strat. There are a tad more mid rangey than standard strat pups. I have a Pearly Gates 'bucker in the bridge.
My cab is an open bacl 2x12 Avatar. Celestion vintage 30 and G12h30. My setting preference is similar to the original post but I prefer mids (on clean tones) pretty low it just makes the tone less abrasive. I like smoooth. I play at pretty low volumes most of the time (unfortunately), so my ratio is oftern pretty low when the OD is on. The major difference is at low volumes I usually use the bass at around 4 or 5. When louder it is too much. Here's how it is now. Volume 5, Switches Bright and Rock on. Treble 7, Mid 1, Bass 5. Power amp master 2, and presence 7. Been playing clean mostly of late. I have a Klein (minus those godawful ugly yellow knobs ;D), an EH holy grail, and Boss delay in the loop. Subtle settings on the effects. Works for me. And I do agree, the amp absolutley loves a Les Paul. Mine sounds killer in this rig. With it I gotta do the OD thing most of the time. Regards |
