Title: Preamp Tube Question
Post by: phil esposito on November 13, 2009, 08:06:45 PM
Hi guys,

I recently acquired a batch of JAN-Philips 5814-A.  -  http://thetubestore.com/jan12au75814.html

I'm thinking of trying it in my OTS...any experiences?

Thanks!

nope but i dont reccoment you use a lower gain tube in the V3 Phase inverter slot. Try them in V1 and V2 though

I am planning to try the Philips JAN 5751 tubes in the V2 position since the overdrive channel drives this tube to into clipping to get the distortion. They recommend using this tube if you have gain to spare which i do in the overdrive channel so i will try it in that slot. Because of the lower gain, it will give more note definition and character.  http://tubedepot.com/nos-5751jan.html

I tried a Jan 5751 in V3 and later replaced it with a 12ax7-c. There was in my view a substantial difference in tone.
