Title: Power transformer
Post by: jestaudio on March 22, 2011, 07:26:08 PM
Heys folks, i,m a newbie about to start my first D type build, got the boards from Nik but using my own trannie, question is how much leeway do i have on voltages, im looking at a Mojo which is about 10v hicher at 355 and 5 v lower on the bias tap

I'd stay within spec. The plate voltage is already quite high with the stock PT and from what i gather the Bias voltage is pretty critical to stay in spec.

Gabby sells Mercury Magnetics PT's, OT's, and Chokes which are considered upgrades at fairly reasonable prices

I wouldn't be too concerned. You're talking less than 3% (710/690=1.029). That's like your line voltage going from 118V to 121.5V. You wouldn't notice. By the way Ceriatone's PT's come can with a 50V or 60V bias winding (Check the web site pics). Mine is 50V and works fine.

Nik is also an authorized mercury dealer - meaning he can sell you the mercury trannies at his dealer price. You send him the money, Mercury send you the trannies directly, which if you're in the US saves a lot on shipping. Don't forget the shipping costs on these things from wherever you end up getting them - they weigh around 25 lbs, which is expensive to ship.

Oh - didn't realize you were over there. Then skip that idea - find something more local!
