Is that design for the speaker cab freeware? I need something similar for a 4x10 I'm going to build.

Thanks,  Hywel Harris

Hi Hywel,

You are more than welcome to this cab design. Basically Kevin's design works by taking a standard 4 x 10 cab and removing 2 speakers. These open front ports also project sound forward. The only other thing that he mentions is to make the cab at least 16" deep. I can provide dxf files to cut a 2 x 12" cab from a sheet of plywood on a router if required and you can modify to suit a 2 x 10".

Hi KV

I am using TV Jones Classic pickups. Not sure how close they are to filertrons. They produce a pretty hot signal which can be hard to control with this amp. I like it personally but it is not like the classic overtone sound that many other forum users here are posting (yet!).  I am still working on getting my sweet spot on the clean channel on the amp.

Ahh, right oh. Can't do 16" deep on my dovetail jig and would prefer to use all my 4 10" Jensens. I guess I'll just have to cut some front facing port holes and experiment.

Yes! you'll be much happier with 4x10 and this type of construction - Hermida 4x10

I personally never liked O'Connor's design, reduces bass via phase cancellation and adds some mid coloration.

Hi - just wann chip in regarding Kevin's cabs. I've build a 2x12 cab, pine top, bottom and sides plus 4mm front and back baffles. The trick is to only mount the cab with one speaker unit and leave the other 'speaker hole' empty. This cab works like a giant acoustic guitar and sounds absoultely amazing. So I can highly recommend Kevins designs.  Grin

Thanks Madringo. My main guitar has TV Jones Classic filtertrons too. They are less hot than the humbuckers many are using for that Robben Ford/Carlton sound so it may just filtertron growl. I'm looking forward to experimenting!

Just a point of interest. I blanked over the front ports in my cabs so basically running fully sealed oversized enclosures and the difference in sound was exceptional. It tightened up the sound and made it alot more focused. Starting to get close to the sound that I envisioned I would get.

KV

The issue I had all along was the front ports not the pickups and those pickups sure do bark and growl. You won't be dissapointed with this amp the range of sounds is wide and varied and all good. I will look forward to comparing notes with you in the future.

cheers

Great to hear you're gettin close Madgringo.  Definitely interested in comparing notes.  This amp is a bit of a departure for me tonewise.  I need to find out more about the 6v6 sound as well.  Might be cool at smaller venues.  My amp will be built in a couple months so I'll post some pics of it then.

cheers,

KV

Beautiful looking rig but is that baffle board made out of particle board?

Thanks mcinku and bluesfendermanblues for the comments

Yes, mcinku, you´re right. The whole thing is made of particle board and mdf.
I was looking for the cheapest solution. Are there any drawbacks with this material (except for the weight) ?
