Thought I'd post a complete picture of my 'family'  Wink whilst sorting out the music room-

left to right...

Fiesta Red Tokai Strat with '59 fender neck,  Overtone + snakseskin Custom Cab Company 2x12 with Celestion Golds, Eric Johnson Strat, Ceriatone TMB 18w Marshall clone, 1969 Red Marshall Plexi superlead + 1970 4x12, Gibson VOS cloud 9 LP, Bravewood '61 Strat, Highly modded Crate VC50 in cream CCC cabs, Sonic Blue CS Strat.

The missus has threatened divorce if I buy any more gear- I just hope she doesn't look too closely under the stairs! Grin

Thanks so much for the Goldfish comment - the missus' laughed so much she called off the lawyers!  Grin  Hmmm- are you guys psychic?  Bitsa Tele under construction in the shed as I speak- but hey - keep it quiet- right!

Pickmaster, don't know exactly what you did to the VC50- but it has a really KILLER tone for the ZZ Top type stuff I play with one of my dodgy bands - an Overtone it ain't, but then I doubt whether the Rev Willy G would really use a Dumble!  Many thanks!

Hi Mitch,

I’m happy you like a VC50, I’ve just increased a coupling cap’s values on preamp valves and increased a mid pot capacitor for more “Dumbly” sound.
People really dislike the Crates, but some of their models were incredible amps. I still have Blue Voodoo 50 head which I modified long time ago and it nails SRV tone as well as Robbe’s tone. I love this amp, even smell of it!
Cheers

Pickmaster-

~I have to agree on the 'snobbishness' over Crate amps in some quarters - I think the brand 'name' does them no service - but if the VC50 is anything to go by, these amps offer amazing 'bang for yer buck'... Cool- thanks again for the tweaks - on reflection it does have a very sweet midrange- but a 'gnarlier' & 'crunchier' edge compared to the Overtone, maybe less compression... but the Neodymium's may have something to do with that- haven't tried the Overtone with the Cream cab yet-  choices...choices...! Here's a bad picture of my recently completed OTS. I love that the chassis is almost exactly 19"

WoW!!!!  Shocked   That is one great looking cabinet!  What kind of wood did you make it out of?   Is that a hand rubbed finish?

Thank you very much. It's not a very good photo though. It is made from curly maple (the bottom is MDF).
I build guitar bodies and happened to have a piece large enough on hand.
It is just rubbed with oil so minor wounds from gigs can be taken care of easily.
Thanks again, Smiley

Lovely cabinet and great idea to put together head and outboard stuff. Everything is connected, compact and ready to go. Well done Sir.!

Here's some more photos of the completed amp. This is working really well for me, I can sit this box directly on top of my cabinet (two alnico Tone Tubbies in a custom-built cabinet one open back, one closed). plug in and go. I have the OTS footswitch mounted on my pedal board. Simple, and sounds great!
btw- this forum has been a huge help to me as I was building this amp, thanks to everyone for all the great information.

Interesting setup Cinstan. I guess that small box is something akin to a Kleinulator? I'm in the process of putting together something very similar, a G# and a BBE Max-X2.

Now this Max-X2 is essentially a cross-over with a built in Sonic Maximiser. I haven't got it yet and I'm not sure it will work (but if it doesn't, I need a crossover for my PA anyway), but I intend bridging the High and Low outputs from one channel of the crossover to go into the G#. This way I have a Gain control in front of the G#, plus in addition to the Sonic Maximiser I can apply varying gain to high and low frequencies. I'm hoping this will do away with the need for a  Kleinulator, however I have been in touch with Nik about a kit so that I can mount that in rack box designed to match my amp. Will report back on progress.
