Title: PAB tuning Post by: JD0x0 on August 05, 2008, 05:37:29 PM Is there anyway to setup your amp or modify it to get more of a boost from the PAB and also get a darker fatter tone

I think the Overtone has plenty of PAB;for most people it is too much. Maybe a matter of the pickups and speakers? Title: Re: PAB tuning Post by: cadsy48 on August 06, 2008, 04:01:49 AM pardon my ignorance but what is PAB?
Title: Re: PAB tuning Post by: JD0x0 on August 06, 2008, 04:25:43 AM PAB= preamp boost. it bypasses the tone controls for a boost
Title: Re: PAB tuning Post by: cadsy48 on August 06, 2008, 06:26:55 AM ah gotcha, thanks :)
Title: Re: PAB tuning Post by: mcinku on August 06, 2008, 06:46:40 AM I think I found some info about this on the TAG forum...
Basically you have to replace the 22M PAB resistor with 4.7M and that will fatten things a bit but this will also lower the amount of your boost. So I guess you will have to decide what you want more, boost or bass. ;D ;) Title: Re: PAB tuning Post by: Steven_nl on August 06, 2008, 02:30:36 PM I often find the sound of the PAB to be boxy. What do you guys think? I realise the 3 switches have an influence on the sound of the PAB. Anything else I could try? (without a soldering iron).
Obviously there is a difference between PAB on and PAB off. I can't figure out what controls the difference in level though. Title: Re: PAB tuning Post by: mcinku on August 06, 2008, 07:00:54 PM Well up to now, I have not used PAB as well... to boxy as you said. I guess it is usable with the OD ch boost if needed but with clean CH is just not working.
I think I will try that 4.7M resistor myself and see if this will make it more likable. ??? I can't figure out what controls the difference in level though. Of course, tone is very subjective but I really like it. I think perhaps the fact that I am running both bright switches on the Klein and the one on the amp and have the treble 8-10 with my Lp for lead, it offsets the box aspect. Anyway, I like it. Sounds ballsy to me. Regards, Casken |
