Greetings all, put me on the list of waiting for an Overtone. Let me share with all of you my impressions from a distance mind you, but none the less.

I first heard the amp from a clip posted on another forum, and youtube. A tasty bit of playing, combined with a thick, refined overdriven tone. Further to this, I started looking more and more for info on the amp. I am familiar with Nik's reputation on the net, and have heard a lot of good things.

What happened was I found myself going back to the clips over and over, really digging the tone. I am not on a search for Robben Ford's tone, or Carlton's, in fact a Dumble is something I have never really had an attraction to.

Before I rant on how impressed I was, let me say it was directly a result of this guys playing that made me feel it was a special amp. How I make it sound will be totally different, but the platform is there. There rest is up to me.

My thoughts on the Overtones was enough to make me place an order, that has to be the biggest compliment I can give it before actually hearing it in person. Although it is going to be a while before I get it, I am looking forward to it. Once here, I will give it my completed evaluation, good, bad or indifferent.

But after hearing several clips, man does it sound unreal.

Off topic here a little, but Nik's JTM50 looks stunning, I may end up ordering one to a/b it to the real deal, (I have a 67 black flag).

This particular amp will go down in my personal history regardless of how it sounds, good enough where I was willing to wait for one...............stay tuned. And thanks to all for posting there feelings, keep em coming.

I didn't know much about this Dumble stuff before as well, except these amps cost a fortune. I'm however in love with Robben Ford's tone, he is one of my favorite players.
At first, when I saw Nik is offering this amp I was thinking, can this amp do it.
...and when I saw those youtube vids, I just placed an order.  Grin

I don't delude myself, I know I won't sound like RF but like you said, the platform is there.

Actually the tone I want to get is present in a clip by spm, a Finland native. You may have seen the youtube clips, there are others like Marin, who have made some nice ones as well. I like the fat mids of the amp, and plan on dialing in the right speaker combination.

I hesitate to ever chase the tone of another player especially a pro, you can have Robben Ford hand you his guitar with his rig plugged in, and you wont nail his tone. You may be relatively close, but it still is going to sound like you.

My larger concern is seeing where I can take this amp, not where its going to take me. Chair Dance

I like this comment from SRV about ODS amps...

You 've got to know what you 're doing with them, because they'll get away from you and take you with 'em."

That seems to be how it happens...Mine should be finished very soon, too....(right, NIK???.....NIK?....) Tongue

I'll post some clips, too...I'm sure it will sound different with each person's individual technique, but hopefully, the fundamental tone should be able to get you into RF territory.
STAY TUNED, INDEED!
