The "Larry tone" was my thread and I have an OTS from July '08.
    I run 5881's at 33ma, 7025 preamps and a JJ 12AX7 PI. I did, however add a "deep" switch that was taken directly from a schematic of the original #124.
    I removed the FET input and board, put in a mini switch and wired it per the  schematic. This gives my cleans a much richer and literally "deeper, not bassier" tone. Think dimensional, not, tonal. It really sounds deeper, like the tubes are resonating...very glassy, not boomy.
    I also added a 15uf cap on the master volume per the original #124.
    As for Larry's stuff, he had Mr. D*%ble put an FET circuit in his Sho-Bud volume pedal to get those awesome highs at bigger volumes. His amps tended to lose some definition in the highs and get bassy at loud volumes.
   By the way, Larry owns #'s 118 and 147. Both 80's models, non HRM.

Great info Bill, thanks. Now to show my complete lack of the obvious, what is the FET input and what is it's purpose? Would it be possible to drill another hole somewhere for the deep switch and keep the FET input?

I am in the same boat.  I need a very high gain overdrive tone.  Which would be best for me. Here is a video of the tone that I am searching for.  The band is widespread panic and their lead guitar player, Jimmy Herring plays a Fuchs TDS 100 into a Hard Truckers cab loaded with Tone Tubby's. 



Which would get me close to this overdrive tone.  Also i plan to get a 1x12 cab to put the chasis in along with a Eminence Cabbabis Rex 12.
