Title: OTS HRM Bluesmaster - Please could someone describe the tone...
Post by: AdrianJ on June 25, 2009, 03:42:22 PM
I've been reading a lot about the various types of OTS and have a little bit about the HRM Bluesmaster, but really not enough that I could say "Yep, that's the one for me" or vice-versa...

Please could someone desribe the tone compared to the other OTS versions.

Also, if anyone has a Bluesmaster OTS and would be willing to post some soundclips with a strat I'd be most grateful. A brief note though, I'm not a Robben Ford/Larry Carlton tonehound, I'm more interested in the clean tones and a bluesier OD sound...

Thanks guys (and gals - just in case ;))

Me too. I would like to hear the clean tone too. My OTS is not as chimey as my DC-30 and I'd like an OTS with a clean more like that, but without the Fender Twin spiky, ice pick treble, and a really smooth OD tone, and by smooth I don't mean warm and bassy, I mean no hint of hard edged clipping to the overdriven sound, as far away from a Marshall JCM900 hard edged drive as possible. Not asking much I know!!

Sorry 'cause I didn't do the strat clips... I don't even know why I went for my 339... perhaps next clips I'll do, will be strat.
I did play my strat through that amp (and John Mayer start as well) and I really don't get all the negativity with D style amps and strats. To me it sounds great.

BTW have you seen this one... Bluesmaster D'lite & strat
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KV9ZO7CJvY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KV9ZO7CJvY)

That clip was "the clip", why I decided to go for BM-HRM... and I'm glad I did.

Regarding the OD smooth thing... I really need to play with my trimmers. My OD tone is far from perfect, I have been told, that reducing mids (with HRM), will make my OD tone smoother.
Man I only wish, I could have more time... these days I'm overwhelmed with everything. I didn't even fired any of my amps since that recording session.  :(

...and BTW, I tried OTS and BM-HRM against the SF Twin. I even used the same G12-65 speaker for the Twin, so that the game would be fair.

...and both amps could do that twin tone. Of course the tone stack was differently set but man, the sound was so close.

Okay now I have to put in a request:

Please, please, please could you do a demo of the cleans and OD sounds from your BM-HRM and your Mayer Strat - if you could play any Mayer stuff that would be perfection, but otherwise anything with that strat and the BM-HRM would be great as I have a frame of reference from owning a JM Strat in the past.

Unfortunately I don't own a JM strat (I sure would love to  ;D)... my friend does. He came in, to check the amp and he brought the start along.

Men, next time I'll ask my friend if he can come (with the strat) and he'll do the playing (he's a much better player anyhow) and I could focus on the recording.
...and we could use tele, 339, strat (more than one), hollowbody, modern Seymour Duncan HB axe

now that would be fun
 ;D

Yeah that sounds like a very fun day!! It would be very much appreciated, by more than just me I'm sure.

I for one am interested hearing it with a strat in the more Mayer type setting also.

The general consensus is that the PI is more blackface like, while the OD is more marshall flavored. The whole thing in general has less gain then the other models.

I've read the general Two Rock is more based on the Bluesmaster PI so I'm curious if it could capture those clean Mayer tones alot of us want.

If that's the case then I'm fairly sure that this is the right amp for me. I love Mayer's tone and if I could capture that myself, then I think it would be the perfect building block to create my own tone from...

Just want to be sure I'm getting the right amp..!!

Hey Guys, Has Nik not sold very many of these amps? Everyone including me has been waiting for clips. I am very interested in buying one but not until I hear what it sounds like. I like the clip of the Brown note amp but would really like to hear a Ceriatone Bluesmaster!!! So if anyone owns one please share it with us! Thanks :)
