Title: OTS FM50 kit in transit Post by: T Wilcox on February 25, 2011, 05:25:57 PM Hello all long time lurker here finally pulled the trigger and ordered an OTS FM50 pack 2 kit.
I am in the process of gathering all the tools that I will need. Do any builders here know what size nut drivers I will need for the various component mounting? Thank you in advance for any replies. I just received my HRM 50 about a week ago. Been building steadily. But my time is somewhat limited and I also want to take my time since this is my first amp build. So far everything is going well. The main screws and nuts are M3x12 & M3X6 w/M3 nuts and star washers. These are small and can be a little hard to deal with in some areas. A nut driver for these would be helpful. Then there are connections for the pots, jack, and switches. As far as the transformers, I'm not sure if yours will be the same, but there's not much to that anyway. You're gonna love the kit. I will pick up a M3 nut driver today or 2 And yes I am so excited I have probably soldered about 10 OTS's in my dreams over the last couple of weeks. You know you are obsessed when you dream of Long tail pairs and capacitor values. Thanks again and best of luck with your HRM project. Yep, that's what I have been doing. In fact I'm not sure if a nut driver will be the most appropriate in some areas. But then again there were some situations that one would make easier. I have a few nut drivers but they're all standard sizes. A soldering station is very handy when it comes at soldering a buss bar(hotter). and capacitors(less hot). Long flat pliers are a charm to work with, especially when the built is half completed. Don''t use leadfree solder it's a pain in the *ss. |
