I just changed my Celestion Vintage 30 16ohm speaker for a EVM12S 8ohm in my 1x12 OT Combo. My oh my, what a difference! Gone are the ice-picky treble highs, more clarity, more everything. Are there any other simple mods I can do to make the most out of the already great sounding amp? I would love more bottom end, the tone controls aren't very sensitive to an already sensitive amp. STRANGE!! Especially when the PAB is engaged, all the bottom end goes.......

Are you kidding or what? Huh?
When dreadful PAB is engaged tone pots are bypassed.

Congrats with EV, it’s great.
Be cool.

I know that when the PAB is engaged all the tone controls are bypassed, it's a no-brainer. BUT, I was hoping to perhaps change a resitor or capacitor, so that when the PAB IS engaged, there'll be more bottom end to the sound. At the moment, changing from stock OD channel to PAB, the bottom end disapears. Is it something to do with the circuitry? I love the more gainy sound the PAB gives, but the bottom end just goes away......

I have the stock 68k resistor and a 22M resistor on a switch on my PAB circuit which does indeed offer more gain and more bottom end than the stock PAB. Actually it works more like a clean boost in that it doesn't just boost the mids like the normal PAB circuit. I don't know how it works on the technical level, but it does!

Gregg

Would you have a link to your mod described above? I'm finding with my Bluesmaster that the PAB works nicely as a level boost on the clean channel but on the O/D channel it just adds more gain without any perceptible change in level. I'm using a clean boost in the loop (with Klein) to get around this currently.

Hey Citizen,

When you engage the PAB, it won't necessarily raise the volume level on the OD.  This is because the boost increases gain into the overdrive channel, which gives increased saturation.  I normally play with the PAB always engaged, so I set the Level of the Drive channel slightly higher to compensate for the increased volume I get on the clean channel with the PAB engaged.  Not sure about the mod referenced above.

I guess I should clarify. The mod I have just increases the boost from the PAB and gives more drive. You can get good crunchy OD even on the clean channel with the pre volume set at noon with the mega PAB engaged.
