Title: New to Ceriatone OTS, which should I get? Post by: Jonathan on December 07, 2008, 01:16:49 AM Hello,
I have been reading about the Ceriatone OTS for a while now. I think this is the amp that I want to get. I have no experience building amps so I will have to buy one that is put together. I really want to get the Cab that comes wit the speaker in it. What are differences between the HRM and the regular OTS? Also, where is good place to look for a good used one, or is there? All advice is appreciated... Title: Re: New to Ceriatone OTS, which should I get? Post by: djroge1 on December 07, 2008, 03:22:45 AM Hey Jonathan welcome to the forum.
I too am new and this is the amp I want. I have never built an amp. In fact, I posted a similar question about 3-4 weeks ago - this link should take you there http://ceriatoneforum.com/index.php?topic=825.0 (http://ceriatoneforum.com/index.php?topic=825.0). You can read it and find the different answers. A few will tell ya that it can be done if you go slowly and carefully. Others will tell you that it may be too difficult for a first amp. I also email Nik about what he thought. He suggested I wait for a new one he is working on. It will be a 5watt mini overtone special. It should be a little easier to build. He also expressed he hopes its out by the end of this month (Dec). Personally, I'm waiting to take a look at the new one and then make a final decision. One thing I have decided is that I definately want to build at least 1 amp in my life and I've heard only good things about ceriatone so I'll be buying from them. Its good that you decided to buy a prebuilt OTS, this would be a steep learning curve for a first amp build. The combo cab looks really nice, I'm sure you'll be very happy with it. I don't know what speaker(s) Nik offers, but the EVM12L & Celestion G1265 are across the board favorites with these D-type amps. HRM OTS's have internal trimmers that control the Treble, Mid, & Bass in the OD circuit. A "standard" OTS does not have these specific trimmers. Both the HRM & non-HRM models will have a FET trimmer, a PI balance trimmer, and a gain trimmer that is only accessible with the chassis out of the head cab (or combo cab) - unless you ask Nik to add these controls to the faceplate or back. As far as used OTS's, I've seen a few on ebay, & on TGP. Good luck on your hunt! |
